In Scotland the pubs are now making a killing on food, their profits went up not down when the smoking ban went into force. Now families can take their small children to a pub for a meal and have a few drinks at the same time, also a lot of bars up here have made nice covered outdoor areas with heaters etc and they are always busy, think you guys just need to give it a chance! |

Trouble is, us smokers are seen to be in the wrong as it is unhealthy for us and those about.
I roll my own baccy in liquorice papers, a bit cheroot like at a rate of about ten per day, but I have to stand in the middle of a feild to smoke the darn things.
This also means that I take a small hip-flask along, thus depriving me of company, and the landlord of trade.
I shall happily put my name on the petition.
A filthy habit, and my children are well and truly discouraged, but we should not be treated as outlaws.

It's funny - in France they just ignored the ban. In Spain they have smoking and non smoking pubs. Over here we get a blanket ban that has put some pubs out of business already - and winter hasn't set in yet.
Perhaps they should have asked the landlords of England what type of pub they wanted. It would have been interesting to see how many no smoking pubs there were then. |

Why don't we all stick together and say NO to all their stupid laws? They are testing us, to see how far they can push us, next it will be tax on the air that you breath!
They can't jail Billions, just say NO! NO MORE STUFF YOU |

Well, a lot of pubs have outside smoking areas. Plus why should a non smoker have to put up with getting their lungs destroyed when they're just there for a good drink and a chat. Personally, I never liked going home smelling like smoke and coughing my guts up, the ban's a good thing. |

I'm in the US, so it wouldn't help much. |

I am a non-smoker but the blanket ban really irritates me as it reminds me of a little term called 'fascism'.
I think the only fair way to resolve the situation is for a pub landlord to be allowed to CHOOSE whether they want their pub to be exclusively smoking or non-smoking. Then, this must be explicitly stated on the entrance by way of a plaque, for example. Individuals, knowing the pub's provisions, can then CHOOSE whether they want to go in the pub or not. With regards to employment, it should be the same matter - one CHOOSES whether or not they want to work in a smoking/non-smoking pub.
I'm sick of this 'Nanny State' government! I will sign the petition. |

What right has the Nanny state to tell me where I can and can't smoke?. If it wasn't for the tax on tobacco the NHS would collapse, or you would all be paying 50-60% tax on your salary to keep it going. I don't tell drinkers where they can and can't drink alcohol, which I personally can't stand the smell of and it's disgusting when somebody breathes alcohol fumes in your face. Good on the person who started the petition, but in this country it will be ignored. |

Oh, and which landlord is this? I'm a landlord and I don't let my tenants smoke. It's the best possible business decision because allowing smoking in the building increases the likelihood of an accidental fire, and results in more cleanup costs when they more out. I used to allow smoking, until this one chain-smoking redneck couple moved in. It took weeks to clean all the tar off the walls and get rid of the smell in the apartment after they left. Yuck! |

I have no problem with someone else destroying their body by smoking.
I just wish they'd pass a law where they had to put a bag over their head while they were smoking. |

BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE LAZY TO THE FACT, AND WANT OTHERS TO DO IT FOR THEM. PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE BY THERE LAZINESS YOUR ALLOWING COMMUNISM TO GO IN TO EFFECT, AND IT WILL BE TO LATE. THIS IS HAPPENING IN THE U.S.A. AND THE UK. "PEOPLE MUST TAKE A STAND"!! YOUR FREEDOM IS BEING TAKEN FROM YOU SLOWLY, DO YOU PEOPLE UNDERSTAND AND COMPREHEND THIS? ALSO IN THE PLANS ARE CENSORING THE INTERNET. |

why should they bring back smoking ,i went through hell when my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer and yes he smoked, chemo and radio therapy saved his life and he agrees that the cancer was caused by smoking.
its a fact smoking kills 100's of thousand of people each year before their time, so which is more important smoking or being alive. |

NightOwl

Why would I want to do that...smoking kills and second hand smoke can be worse, that's not exactly fair for people who dont want to increase their risk of cancer is it? if you want to smoke then stop being selfish and go outside, it's really not that hard |
