Someday is there going to be a law that teens can`t get their drivers license till their 18 years of age?

Considering that I've been rear-ended 5 - yes, 5 - times by kids between the ages of 16 & 18, I'd say its a good idea. All 5 times I was already sitting at red lights or stop signs, and all 5 times the cars were full of friends, and I got the same answer "I wasn't paying attention".

Of course, special permits exclusively for driving to work or school would be fine, but the joy riding scares me.

This has been proposed in my state several times, but it has never gone farther than discussion.

Maybe between 16 & 18, they should only be allowed to drive golf carts!

Mostly like yes. Some states like NJ and NY all ready have a lot of restrictions on younger drivers.

I don't really know, but it might be safer that way. Then again there are some pretty mature teens out there. Just a thought.

I think the Commenwealth States are pushing for this. I live in the Comenwealths of Virginia and Kentucky and they are wanting this to happen. I think it will in the next few years. My son has to wait a Year before he can get his license. I know when I got mine it took only a month before I could take the Driving exam.

Virginia is starting that, anybody born in '92 or after has to be 18 to get a license.

while there are many restrictions (this comming from a 16 year old) I doubt strongly that drivers licenses will icrease to 18. While it is a pain for most parents, they should have a grasp on there kids lives. Most people who have responsible parents and that know they shouldnt be driving arnt on the road, but people who have young, and uninvolved parents that are on the road are on the road and cause alot of problems.

Thankfully even the democrats in this country realise that it is the parents desicion on the driving age not the states, and that the driving age minnimum is 16 and that they should leave it at that, they arnt going to change somthing that isnt a major problem right now.

I doubt it. Such a law would meet too much resistance from parents, who are active voters. At least here (in Florida) everything (school, activities, jobs, friends) are so spread out that most parents buy their teen a car, otherwise the parents would have to take the kids everywhere.

Highly doubtful... unlike drinking alcohol, driving is something the US wants people to gain experience in.

Not here in Maryland, but what they ARE trying to pass into law is if a student misses 10 unexcused absences from school they can't get their learners' permit and/or if they already have it it will be suspended.

Could that same law please state that elderly people who can't drive over 25 miles per hour, or see over the steering wheel, can't drive either???

No - that's a stupid idea. 16 year olds are plenty old enough to drive. they have jobs, and I don't feel like driving them everywhere. We need to stop treating them like children, or that's the way they'll act.
