I'm not sure Hun, but I think unless your "friend" is homeless you got to ask yourself why they have done this-
Sounds a little dodgy to me :o$
Don't open the mail because that IS illegal, and as you do not know why they are doing it, its probably best for you if it stays like that, that way you are not getting involved, to an extent.
Then just "Return to Sender" -tell your friend that you are not impressed and that they should get a PO BOX address in future!!! |

And you call them a friend??? Dump them and dump their mail as well... Who needs friends like that? |

Gee Wiz they cannot be much of a friend that when asked they are propelled to lie to your face as you suggest while you shout cries of legality. Chill out m' lady, take it as a joke there probably a loving reason why they have done this. Maybe they have a childish e-mail which does not sound professional maybe a joke went too far? I bet your bottom dollar if they are a friend the reason will be quite plutonic & what's a few random e-mails amongst friends? |

Dont know if its illegal but its not good he could be trying to
get credit at your address.
Return it all - not known at this address.
Also he would have mentioned it or admitted it after if he had
nothing to hide. |

no send them a email stating that you know longer want any mail from their company |

When the mail comes just write on the envelope "Not known at this address- return to sender" and it will all be sent back to the company. |

Yes, this is against the law, and it was done to me. So I simply got a "change of address card," filled it out, and I no longer received this persons mail. Before it went through, if their mail came to my address, I wrote on the envelope,"RETURN TO SENDER!" The whole process only takes about a week or so. Good luck |

It doesn't even sound illegal. It sounds petty. If you don't want the stuff coming to your house send it back or put in a return of address forwarding it to your "friend's" real address. |

Contact the local post office and report that someone has done this and they will stop it, it is illegal for you to put in a change of address for another person. Starting today write not at this address and return to sender on it until you can clear up this matter with the post office. |

Watch for the banking letters! he might be planning on getting himself a few new credit cards using your address then fleeing to Spain to enjoy them leaving you to explain the billing address and why you allowed it.. you might even be a guarantor .. have a nice day. |

You are doing the best thing in returning the mail. But also seek advice at your local sorting office and ask that no mail under that name be delivered to your address. There could be several reasons why he has done this - none of which are pleasant! Mainly to avoid any report for bad credit going against his address. However, it could be a genuine error on the part of the writer, but I don't see how.. |

I doubt it is a crime unless your friend is using the postal service to carry out some other crime (like perhaps harassment). You should know that non-direct solicitations do often get mixed up and people who may appear on one document may get mail for each other. Like if you go buy something on-line and include both names or share an apartment even. I have access to one database for creditors and it is scary not only how much information they have (like addresses going back twenty years), but also how it is mixed with misinformation. |

I am really not sure if it is illegal. I suppose it depends why he is using your address. If it is just for general mail then there may be nothing legally you can do.
You get several options. Put the mail in the bin. Return to sender - not known at this address. Contact the sender and speak to them. Speak to your "friend" and tell him he is no longer your friend and ask him if he is commiting some type of fraud????? Tell him you are contacting everyone who mails him and if you have a new address for him, pass this on to the companies concerned.
What a pain. |

yes you can't do this it illegal you can take him to court for this. I would advice getting a lawyer first file a police report he using your address falsely. he filed false information and you can't do that so I go to the police. let me know what happens. |
