For civil proceedings I have to provide 2 copies of evidence to the courts - one for the court file & one for the defendant.
The instructions read:
Please bring with you all information to substantiate your claim. For example: contracts, paid bills, estimates, invoices, photographs, etc.You must supply one set of copies for the court file, and one set of copies for each defendant that you name in your suit.
I will have to submit financial and personal documents - bank statements, lease info - full of personal & sensitive information. Am I able to alter the documents to hide sensitive info like account numbers, unrelated debits/credits & balances, current physical address and so on? How far can I go to protect my personal info from the defendant without killing my case?

You best bet would be to contact the clerk of the court where you filed your action, and explain that there is sensitive, confidential information that you would not like to share with the defendant, and what information may you redact (hide). You may also be able to introduce a full, unredacted copy to the judge "in camera," where only the judge views the document, then the judge decides what will be hidden from the defendant.
You would most likely be able to hide most of your account number (i.e., all but the last two or four digits) and current address, but it is doubtful that you would be able to redact charges that you feel are "unrelated." For example, if you redacted a charge that you felt was unrelated, the defendant could say that it was actually a charge that would benefit him. So, it is best that the judge be able to see all of the charges and decide what benefits and what harms the defendant. |

you can hide personal acct numbers etc. but under the rules of discovery tis is all relevant info. and any alliterating of the documents is fraud.it sounds like to me you are to thick headed to consult with a attorney and that your knowledge and Research in this matter is going to bite you in the bit any way,get a attorney that will take it on contingency if it is such a shure winner |
