Taking photos of a neighbours property. Where do I stand legally?

I realise and airports and No.10 it is forbidden because of terrorist threats. but would I be contravening any law by doing this?

If you are on public land then you can take a picture of anything - even no.10 and airports.

So - if you are standing on a public highway and taking pictures of your neighbours house then it is legal. Same if you are in your garden taking pictures.
It does not mean your neighbour won't get upset though.

as long as your not standing on their property whilst taking the photo your not breaking any law. Common decency should prevail and you should ask permission in my opinion.

Legally (UK) I don't know, but to be polite (wondering why you need to be doing this in the first place?), I think I'd be asking permission. It would make me extremely 'twitchy' if I saw my neighbour taking photos of my house!!!

A house we lived in was totally renovated after we moved out and as I was interested to know what had been done, I asked an old neighbour friend to send me pictures - she said she'd not feel comfortable about doing this.

It depends on the reason why you are taking the photographs of your neighbours property .

If it is perceived as a form of ongoing dispute between you , then it could be seen as harassment which could be criminal .

If it is for some innocent reason then out of politeness why not ask your neighbour and explain .

Not in the UK...here there are laws that allow this...which is why the Paparazzi are so prevelant...but why dont you just ask their permisison?

It really isn't polite without asking for permission first. Why are you taking pictures? What are you using the pictures for? You could be violating privacy laws if you are taking pictures that are going to be shown in public, seek permission if you can.
