This is what normally happens. First, the principal must be notified. The principal is required to notify the district office and the department of education. The principal will take statements from the student, the teacher and any witnesses. Those findings are reported back to the district office and the department of ed. Depending on those findings, the teacher can be placed on adminstrative leave while the department of ed investigates. The deaprtment of ed can either let the teacher keep their job or can revoke the teacher's certificate. Criminal charges may also be filed, but that's a whole different deal. Once the department of ed makes a decision, that's the end.

It is extremely difficult to judge the truth of your statement based on one side. Being a high school teacher, I see stunts pulled by high school students ALL THE TIME. The list includes:

1. I'm going to sue.... (you could list any number of things the school, the teacher or teachers or staff member has done to provoke this threat.)

2. Kids lying about a teacher's actions. Kids today are savvy enough to know that they can get teachers into trouble and that the kid will be believed (if they don't have a long discipline file).

3. Kids exaggerate. I have had students do this to the extreme, yet when they hug me and I tell them to stop, they act offended. As teachers, we have to be careful

On the other hand, it is possible the teacher really did hit. However, you need to get both sides and consider the histories and reputations of both sides.

I would say about a quarter to a half of high school students are disrespectful, while the others are not. It all goes back to the parents.

It is time we took steps to stop the abuse of teachers by frivolous students.

You need to report it to the school and police as you see fit. Initially they will look into why it happened by taking res ponces from both individuals and see how they match. They will see if either individual has any background of violence and if there are no witness, it would be hard to prove either way unless there was a witness. If not, its each individuals word against the other and you would have to work with the school system and police as necessary to determine what happens from there

It sure would be nice to know what your friend's son did or said to the teacher. With the way a lot of kids are today, I'd like to know whats the max that can happen to a student who provokes a teacher to that point. Why would he be hit for absolutely nothing?

first off the teacher can get fired for hitting the students my advice is to go the Principal and tell him or her about the incident and see what happens

I worked in a school office, and witnessed abuse by a staff member. The principal should be told first, but in my case, he did nothing. I called a public health nurse for my county, and they helped me to find where I should report it to.
I had to report it to the police and to the state's department of education. They did a full investigation.

I would go directly to the police first and not the principal, because those in "the system" tend to protect and side with their own.

He most likely ran his mouth and the teacher had enough so she shut it for him,Little Johnny isn't always telling the truth.

The little pansy probably deserved it . I'll have you know that when I was in school we used to get paddled on a daily basis. this was not fun sometimes up to 3 times daily so Man - up little girls. Its good for ya.

He probabily deserves it. You friend should be glad that someone do something to teach disobedient kids. To protective to your children may not be a good thing... kids deserved to be disciplined once a while.
