The USA says you have no obligation to help another human being - what does the UK say?
|
As far as I know in the USA this is true. For example if there was a woman dieing in the streets of stab wounds then by LAW (not consious or morals) you have no obligations to help her and if she died you would not be charged with manslaughter.
What is the UK's stance on this.
Oh and correct me if i am wrong.

The position in UK law is this:
There is no general obligation to act to help other people, however there are a few situations in which you can be liable for omissions to act - where you have taken on a duty, for example by being paid to do something, where you've taken on the duty in some other way, and where you've created a danger.
In your example there would be no obligation to help.
There have been cases where defendants have been convicted for omissions. |

Although I am not aware of a Federal Law which contradicts you, numerous states and municipalities have some variation of so-called "Good Samaritan" laws that do allow for prosecution of those who do not come to the aid of another.
Also, many states have traffic laws in place where leaving the scene of an accident where there are injuries is illegal, even if you were not directly involved in the accident. |
