It is justice...People need to stop crying for people who partake in heinous acts of violence that destroy and devastate lives and families and start thinking about the victims...Our world does not need more monsters than it already has that will never be caught...We disrespect and devalue INNOCENT life by making decisions to give people thirty years (usually less) in prison for taking an innocent human being's life...And for those who would say that it is no better for us to kill the killer because then we are doing the same thing as them...They are WRONG...because we are taking the life of someone who asked for this punishment, someone who volunteered by virtue of their own despicable actions to have their life cut short...We need to remember that not all life is to be respected...Innocent life is to be respected and some people commit such atrocious acts of violence and devastation that they choose to forfeit the respect their life was formerly owed

Anyone who takes a life should have their life taken from them.

Shouldn't kill people. Look how many on death row have been overturned. Your putting life in the hands of cops who can have a chip on their shoulder, citizens on a jury who pretend it's Law and Order, and a failing Prison system that does not have rehabilitation in reality.

Don't kill, put them in tent city and chain gangs like REAL prison should be.

When you choose to violate the rights of someone else (commit a crime) why should you expect to not have your rights (even that to life) to be treated in any way other than the same? Like begets like.

It is fair depending on what the person did that is going down death row.

It is fair, and it keeps repeat offenders of the street. Why would we take the chances of saving a criminal who could hurt people, when we could save the lives of innocent people by removing the criminal.

Depends.
For serial killers, pshya

Only way the death penalty could possibly be fair would be if our justice system was inerrant and that no innocent people had ever been convicted of crimes they didnt do.

If a man takes anothers life then he is guilty of murder. If a man orders the murder of someone then he is also guilty of murder. If the courts order the death of someone are they also guilty of murder?

Unwise. Looking at the death penalty system in action, you realize that the only purpose it serves is retribution or revenge, it is seriously (and intrinsically) flawed in application and that there is a serious and continuing risk of executing innocent people. And, it costs much more than life in prison. Sources below.

130 people wrongfully convicted people were sentenced to death and were lucky to be exonerated and released, eventually. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people. If someone is convicted and later found innocent you can release him from prison, but not from the grave.

The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.

Life without parole, on the books in 48 states, also prevents reoffending. It means what it says, and spending 23 of 24 hours a day locked in a tiny cell is not a picnic. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.

The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs of legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people. (upfront = pre trial and trial level)

The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?

Families of murder victims are not unanimous about the death penalty. However, even families who have supported the death penalty in principal have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.

Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

My point of View on the Death Penalty; In MOST cases the death penalty is Necessary! It doesn't bother me! Do the CRIME; suffer the Consequences. Is it Fair or Unfair? Who cares if it's FAIR or NOT! Someone was murdered viciously and suffered a horrific death. For example Scott Peterson deserves the Death Penalty for killing his 9 month pregnant wife. Who does such a horrific thing like that? A Human Monster/ Selfish & Arrogant! Scott could have walked away and divorced his wife and chased after Amber if that was his Desire but he CHOOSE the Dark Path of Murdering his wife.

I think its fair because the person who is sentenced it has probibly killed an inecoent person the person they killed never had a chance with the killer why should the killer have a chance with the government. and for the family who has had a person killed by a killer don't you think they hate the fact that they are paying to keep the killer alive through taxes?

I wish i was mixed
i don't see why we kill people who kill others but we find it unfair if someones punshment for rape is to have the same done to them

so no

I just did a paper on this.
First off, the time and money it takes to execute an inmate on death row is insane! It takes an average of 12 years for a convict to go through a trial and the mandatory appeal process! The cost of the trials can be millions of dollars more than a sentence of life without parole.
California currently has 667 death row inmates but have not executed anybody since 2006. This gives the state a 250 MILLION DOLLAR average cost per execution. They have the death penalty but do not end up executing!!!! This is a waste of TAX PAYERS MONEY! Florida stated that if they got rid of the death penalty they would save 52 Million dollars per year. New York wasted 160 million dollars in their final 7 years without executing anybody. Then their statutes were found unconstitutional and they stopped the death penalty all together.

Honestly, I think the death penalty is great. Kill off the murderers and rapists! BUT should the taxpayers pay millions and millions of dollars to execute them???? I think not! That is why the death penalty needs to be reformed to find a cheaper and faster way! The cost and time is way too high! AND WE, THE TAXPAYERS, ARE PAYING FOR IT!

another little fact, it costs $90,000 more per year to keep an inmate on death row than it does to keep an inmate in a max penitentiary. Why does it cost so much to execute somebody? Why does this criminal deserve for us to pay for him to die?

i think that if someone is stupid enough to kill or hurt someone thay deserve the death penalty!

RM
hard question... does anyone really deserve to die? but if their crimes were so inhuman ... i guess so. but alot of people are killed then found to be innocent.. but in general - i think so.. only if involved with man slaughter and murder.

I think there are some crimes where it makes a lot of sense. The problem with the death penalty is they use it for murder in the throes of passion, which isn't a good enough reason to execute someone. Save it for people who prey on children or who torture etc. Nobody but a few wild eyed activists will begrudge the death penalty in cases like that.

TERRIBLY Unfair.

This country needs death penalty reform!!!

Some of the points we need to address are:
* how to get rid of the insanity defense so we can put more murdering scumbags to death
* eliminating age restrictions so teenagers who kill can also be put to death
* forcing states to have death penalties so victims families can get equal satisfaction in seeing murdering scumbags put to death
* remove "humanitarian" restrictions on death penalty methods: let the b*stards suffer!

I have some more good ideas...

i think its dumb actually
why do we kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong.
being killed is way to simple.
i think they should suffer in jail.
like the person they killed did.
