i don't understand how drug dealers make money.
if they buy the drugs and than sell them how are they making any money through this process.

no one sells at the same price that they buy, no one would make any money, be it a drug dealer, a gas station, a supermarket. When you go into a grocery store and buy milk for 2.50 do you really think the supermarket paid 2.50 for that gallon of milk as well? As if they were just passing on the product to you and making zero dollars as the middle man? You should read some type of basic economics book. |

They sell the drugs (in smaller quantities) for more than they bought them for. |

I'm no drug dealer but I am a forensic scientist that works with drugs.
1) Dealers do what is called 'cut' or alter the amount of drugs. for example (this is very exaggerated for simplification):
a dealer buys a kilogram of pure cocaine for $500. They add things like Caffeine, Lidocaine, Benadryl, Acetaminophen (Tylenol), or other cheap over the counter drugs. They can double the weight to 2 kilograms. If they still charge that same amount they pocket the extra $500. So they are selling "watered down" product for the same amount.
2) Also they buy in bulk, just like when you go to Sam's club to buy paper towels. They are cheaper the more you buy, the more drugs you buy in bulk the cheaper you can get it.
3) They charge for their time. It takes time to weigh individual 'hits' or servings of the drug.
4) Supply and demand. If cocaine is scarce they can charge more for it.
Keep in mind that dealing drugs is a very risky job not to mention illegal. you normally don't get the slap on the wrist and if you sell to kids it's over johnny |
