Way to try to roll over on a question that should have been dead a long time ago.

I honestly do sympathize with you and wish that the world didn't work the way that it does, sometimes. I understand that Native Americans have been treated with no consideration in the past, and still are to this day.

However, something that you should realize, as a person, is that if you're living in a specific country/state/province, you -need- to follow their laws. It's a part of life, and one person's bickering about it isn't going to do anything.

Saying, "Native Americans lived in this country for longer than the "white man," so they should get rights whites should not, is a bit racist in itself.

I'm aware that you're going to hate my answer, but it's the truth. It's how our world is today, and there's nothing that anyone is going to do about it.

Also, the laws for fishing and hunting go by state in the USA. Please do not call the entire government of the country "broken," because of something like this. If you have a real problem with your state's laws, you should go to the proper authorities.

Riiiiight. Native Americans have specific land given to them, they can do virtually whatever they want on that land. But even still, you never owned any land, your ancestors did, that does not give you a right to it. The problem with all Americans is they think they have a right to their ancestors stuff, they shouldn't, every generation should have to make it on their own. Including the kids of rich white parents.

If you were fishing on tribal land, obtain a letter from a tribal elder stating that you belong to the tribe, and you were fishing on tribal land.

If you were fishing off-reservation, you are subjected to the same laws (and protections) as other US citizens.

Did you show him your Roll Card?

The way things are set up, unless your fishing on Tribal Land (The Rez) you're bound by THEIR laws.

I've been caught doing the same but I showed him my roll card and he let me go because the river I was fishing in, WAS tribal water once upon a time. AND he didn't want the headache of dealing with tribal officials.

That "FREE Fishing License" you can ONLY get by showing your roll card, and PROOF that you make UNDER 10k a year.

Their 'justification' will come in a few forms "that was a long time ago let it go", "you came across the ice bridge, your not native anyhow" and my personal favorite "you killed off the people that were here so what we did is just the same"

If you were Native Canadian you wouldn't need a license to fish or hunt and whitey can get fined for picking wild rice cause it belongs to the Natice Canadians.

wow...some answers disgust me..I wonder if any of these people would say "well that guy murdered my husband/wife/child and stole all of my belongings, but you know that was then and this is now, I should get over it." Why do people answer when they have nothing constructive to say and know little about the question at hand?

And I don't believe fishing licenses are for the purpose of fixing anything. Once again, you're not making any sense, or really asking a question.

You got a ticket because anyone who fishes or hunts without a license gets a ticket. It's a result of fishing and gaming laws, that, if I'm not mistaken, were created with the blessings of Native Americans who are trying to protect this country's natural resources. God bless America.

"Your land?" lets see the title. I prefer to live in the present not some nonexistent idealized past. Native
Americans couldn't compete with European settlers and the winners get to make the rules. BTW I could claim native American heritage on both sides of my family but I think who I am is much more important than who my great grandmother was.

I understand my maternal grandmother may she rest in peace was Native American,Cherokee,and Ioved looking at her pictures of her and my great grandmother and I will just say this to you I agree with you one hundred and twenty percent and leave it at that ok!

I justify it the same way you try fishing w/o a license. Get over it. I'm sure the need for fishing licenses outdates you. Ignorance is not an excuse. But it IS bliss. You must be very happy.
