Here is what I think ... bye-bye. This was no accident. In shooting them and setting fire to the house, he made it very clear he wanted these two people dead. He can make something of himself in prison. Even there, he's got more of a life than his grandparents do. |

Its good that he got tried as an adult.
That is just horrible!! |

He is thirteen, he knew what death was and how to deliver it. If anything he should have had a worse sentence.
I am an ignorant youth saying this because if anyone I knew killed someone at that age, I would expect them to be heavily punished. |

thats phuking crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the world we live in...if that boy is capable of killing and burning down a house, im sure he can spend 30 years in prison... |

No. He deserves to be sentenced to life in prison, and not only that, he also deserves be brutally tortured every single day for the rest of his life. |

It's a pretty fair deal. He took two lives and got an adequate sentance. Trying kids as minors is a bad idea anyway. It's when they're young that they should get the toughest punishment - then they'll learn not to do it again.
The kid was most likely a psychopath, and it's good that he'll be off the streets for the next 30 - well, 10 - years. |

Absolutely. The laws should be changed and this sets a good example. Age shouldn't matter. |

good punishment. i dont think it should be charged as a minor because it wasnt like oops i axidently shot two people that im related to then set the house on fire. he obviously had out alot of thought to it.
good q! |

I am not sure, but i certainly don't want a kid like that around my kids. I would, if i were the judge, send him to a psychiatric ward where he could get help. Only after a certain amnt of years and with psychiatrists approval, only then should he be released, I guess. Thats a tough one. |

Thirty years?!!! That's it? This is one of the reasons I believe in the death penalty. Sentenced for thirty, out in twenty w/good behavior and he'll be forever be a load on society. |
|

made it to 20 ...now what??
 |
ya thats just wrong |

30 years? Not long enough. Should have been life.
I don't care the age, 12 knows the difference between right and wrong.
Not only did he murder one, but two, and also then arson.
He got off way too easy. |

i heard about that on news ya he will be 41 when he comes out of jail...i heard it this morning....preety sad |

At 12 the kid knew what he was doing was wrong. I say 30 years a pretty easy sentence. He should have gotten life. After he gets out he'll be on welfare for the rest of his life so our tax money is going to pay for his whole life anyway so lock the punk up! |
|

that is awful. you dont shoot anyone, let alone kin!!! i think that he should get 30 yrs at the very LEAST!!! i think that life or the death sentence would have been appropriate.. |

Hello
Physiological disorder is main reason.
Some time depression and stress also forced a person to do violently |

should have given him life without parole. After doing his 15-20 years in prison, what kind of individual are we realeasing back out into the public? He knew what he was doing. He killed two people and then tried to hide the fact by burning down the place. Most adult criminals don't think that out. |

Being tried as an adult at his age for the crime he committed was one of the best decisions I have seen/heard someone make in a while. I know of ppl who have just been there at the time of a murder(not commit murder) and have been sentenced to LIFE.this kid actually committed murder and only got 30yrs. |

Anyone who kills needs to face the consequence. At that age you know that killing is Wrong. He only got 30 years? Think of all the good psycho stuff he's going to learn in the 30 years he is locked up. DO you think he should be released? He shot his grandparents... with a shotgun....while they slept. He knew how to use a shotgun. He obviously knew that if he pulled the trigger what would happen. If he felt remorse, why didn't he stop after he shot one person? He shot again. I don't even want to read about it. This kid is sociopathic and for the next 30 years he will be in the system and learning how to manipulate the system. How do you rehab someone like that? You can't! He'll say and do anything you want him to say just to get out. |

We are talking about a 12 yr old here not a 2 yr old.Not know what he was doing....my azz.He knew what he was doing.I hope in 30 yrs he is evaluated intensely before release. They may find he needs more time if not life behind bars.He slaughtered his own blood as they slept...that kid deserves 30+yrs to life as far as I am concerned. |

I have never agreed with trying minors as adults.......My whole problem with it is if a person doesnt have the rights of an adult, then you shouldnt treat them as an adult just to make an example out of them ( you being the general person).
Sometimes I think we only have rules like this is not because we feel it is the best way to handle it, but because people are vengeful and always want revenge.
Also if we are going to try children like adults, how do we decide on what age is the right age? all I know is in my state we have a certain age (cant remember what)....how do we know that is the age when all children are old enough to be responsible? |

30 years seems about right to me. |

HE should have got more than just 30 years. Think about it. He'll e 42 when he is released. Not long enough. |

Ok all....Yes, it was a horrible act! I agree. However, take a few moments to look up the drug zoloft and the effects it has on children including increased aggresiveness to hallucinations. Thats right!!! I said hallucinations. Right there in black and white on the zoloft website! Not to mention that it is not approved for the treatment of depression for children under 18 as this CHILD was being treated for. So as an educated seasoned RN, I really think more should have been looked into when sentencing this CHILD to 30 years in prison. I do not agree with his actions, although when a child under adult supervision, is treated with a medication by a licensed professional, that clearly states should not be used for a type of illness, and also clearly states the side effects it can have on said child, should be futhur investigated. Yes, guilty for murder however may have been influenced chemically therefore not beyond a shadow of a doubt! |
