You may think you have a moral right to do so, but without the license plate or mirror tag, or however it's indicated so in your area, you're not legally right to do so. If you want to do it, go get the tag like the other people do. You're not above the law.

shortmellophonegeek
unless you have a handicapped pass its illegal

Not unless you have a handicapped placard or license plate. Ask your dr. to sign for a temporary one.

ethanarena
nope, you need to have a sticker and you need to be registered. Maybe you could check with your doctor or town office??

no! have your friend that's driving you drop you off at the door and then go find a parking space. then they can wait for you and come back an pick you up. you are temporarily injured...not handicapped!

You really shouldn't be asking this question here, as Yahoo readers are not the ones that will give you a ticket. You should ask the local police department. But I can tell you what they are going to say:

There are two requirements, and both have to be met:

1. You must be physically disabled
2. You must display a permit.

If you meet both requirements, great. If you only meet one, the tickets are quite expensive.

Sorry, no. You can only park in handicap parking places if you have the handicap on your license plate or you have the window hang. If it's the ankle is that bad, you should definitely not be going to a park where ground is uneven. Park along the side of the road, if possible or park in a spot available closest to the park. There are people with much worse injuries and should they decide to go to the park, the spot is for them, not someone with just a broken ankle.

" Disabled" placards are required (plastic cards that are hung on the rearview mirror) If you don't have one of those in the car, you're taking a chance that you could be cited and fined

onyx1
no, only if you have a handicap sticker.

No,you can't do that (lol)....
I do have a story to tell you thou.16 years ago,I was 7 months pregnant and went to labor. When I got to the hospital,my
ex-husband couldn't find a parking spot close enough to the entrance door so we decided to park at the handicap spot.
Before we went in,there was an officer parked three cars behind us.Just to be on the "safe" side,I walked up to him (baring down all the pain in me cause I could feel the baby head coming down) and told the officer about our car parked
at the handicap spot and he told us that he will let the other officers know but as soon as get admitted, the father will have to come down and move the car.

well weather its legal or not im not sure but I would rather see someone with a broken ankle on crutches park in a handicap spot then some of the people i see parking there that has stickers and they get out and can walk faster than me. then they shop for an hour then get back in the car. now that pisses me off.

Kevin k
If they do not have the temporary physical handicap permit visible, then it is illegal to park in the spaces reserved for the disabled.

You might get away with it or you might get a ticket. Either way, it is not worth it.

The best solution is to have your friend drop you off at the door and go park legally. When it is time to leave your friend can go get the car while you wait curbside.

What is this "physically challenged" you speak of?

Oh...must be political correctness-speak for disabled/handicapped.

In that case, no - it is illegal for him to park there since only people with disabled/handcapped markers can park there (usually tags that hang from the rear view mirror). And only the truly disabled can get those - a mere broken ankle doesn't count.

Sure I don't think there should be areas marked for certain people. This world should be FREE!!!

No that's really wrong, and illegal.

goldyyloxx
Of course it is okay; but you'd probably get a ticket for having no handicapped tag. I would have them drop you at the door and come get you at the door.

Casu.
Yeah.
As long as you've got crutches to prove you're physically challenged.
