Um is this legal thanks?

Im seventeen, from Arborfield England. I recently acquired a live frag grenade, WW2 era, from a friend who was paid by his mum to get rid of it, I paid fifty pounds for it, but Im not sure if it is legal?
Model: NO. 77 Mk 1 British, 1940

Well, to address the trivial issue first, no, it is NOT legal, and you can go to jail (Well, young offenders institution) for possession of an explosive device.

Second, and FAR more importantly, that thing is HORRIBLY unstable! The detonator etc is seventy years old! Literally just knocking up against it, or even jarring the shelf it is sitting on, could set it off. While the explosives will have lost some of their strength, they are still strong enough to kill.

Call your local police NOW. Tell them what you have, and EOD will come and get it. Do NOT pick it up again to take it to the station. If you surrender it voluntarily, you will NOT be prosecuted. They want to encourage people to hand these things in.

Your life is, literally, on the line here.
