Unemployment taking forever!!!?

I filed for unemployment and never followed through with it in january and then did it again in march and actually followed through the instructions. i have 6 weeks of claims waiting and each one says "A determination is pending regarding your eligibility for benefits for this week." i supposably had a 5-week investigation but that was over a week ago. why is my money taking SO F-ING LONG!!?? i tried calling maine unemployment departments and emailing them but noone ever responds!..is there any way i can through to them????

Isn't bureaucracy a wonderful thing! And people want the government to take over health care, too.
All you can do is keep calling. Find a different number to call if the one you are calling is going to a recording. A lot of times, when you get the recording, pressing "0" (zero) will transfer you to a live person. But this will depend on what type of phone system they have, and if it is configured for this.
And, obviously you loss your job, but you didn't state why. Were you laid off? Did you quit? Did you get fired for something you did? There are various reasons you may be denied unemployment. You would think they would contact you if you were denied so you could file an appeal, but it all goes back to bureaucracy. |

You should try harder to get a hold of them, you may not have been approved for the benefits after the 5 week investigation. Thats an awful long investigation period...I was recently knocked down from 40 hrs a week to 22 hours, and I only had 1 waiting week before I got my 1st check to make up the lost hours. If you pay into the system, you should be able to withdrawl the benefits when needed, as long as you qualify. |
