I'm sorry ...
If you're talking about Aquadots now, who exactly died? World-wide, the effect was that 5 children became intoxicated.
True, they changed the formula. True action needs to be taken. They're (not 'their') not baby killers.
Hyperbole is fine at times, but accusing people of things that haven't happened is wrong. Children have been killed because of all sorts of things. One was killed yesterday, trying to change the volume on a TV that was on a bureau. The bureau tipped over and she was killed. Is the bureau manufacturer or TV manufacturer a baby-killer?
Children eat house-plants and get sick and die. Are plants baby-killers?
Children have died choking on gum-balls. Are candy manufacturers baby-killers? What about hot-dogs, swing-sets and every other thing that children get killed using?
Yes, China has problems. The reason so many products are being found that are not up to spec is because SO MANY products are made there. If people were willing to buy locally produced merchandise, we would have problems with locally produced merchandise as well. (We would also have more jobs, but that's another story.)
Things are market driven. We want cheap products. We want quality products. We want high wages. These three desires are at odds. We want people to work for little money, but we don't want it to be people in the U.S. We want high quality, but we don't want to spend money for it.
If an american company wished to set up a factory in China and use decent quality materials, they could. But it would cost more. It is possible to have more oversight, but things cost.
If you want to place all the blame on China, go ahead. Things will never change. If you think the cure is to simply stop buying products from china, do that. It won't change.
The cure isn't to merely not buy things from certain countries. There are some high quality products that do come from China. There is dangerous junk that is made right here in the United States.
Why not instead decide that you aren't going to buy toys that your kids will be tempted to eat? Why not more closely monitor children, their play habits, what they have for toys, and insure that children play with age-appropriate toys?
SOME of the toys manufactured in China have had problems. That is PART of the problem. That is ONLY part of the problem. |

Sure, as soon as you get rid of your computer. It's highly unlikely all the components were made in America. |

I sure hope your kids like playing with chunks of wood as that is pretty much the only things still made in America. |

If we all would just buy "Made in America" that would be a perfect world, but its not going to happen. Check around all the crap comes from Asia including dishes, clothes etc.
Try to buy what ever you can, remember even Post Cereals, Quakers etc.are "product of the United States" it means they are packaged in the US but made in China. That needs to stop, even though the Companies are saying, they are done in clean sanitized environments. I say.: Forget it, that's bull.
Why can't the make stuff that we eat here? So its not only what we put into our hands but also what we put into our stomachs. Congress will have to step in, if enough people write to their congressman. |

Baby Killers is a bit strong wording, BUT, I do agree that we all should make an extra effort to buy American Made Products. |

Unfortunately, even american made products are shoddy. Not all, but until American Business' take pride and actually build quality products at an affordable price, eco friendly etc (which is next to impossible), our insaciable hunger for "for stuff", we're all looking for deals (Walmart is classic for pressuring companies to produce cheaper products. India for example get paid what is it I heard - Like $2.00 a day, it was on the news, but we american refused to pay more. So until we, as americans get our heads out of our butts, boycotting a country will do nothing but drive up prices here. so many of of live penny to penny- middle class -which is now deemed -the new lower class- are being taxed to death, while the rich get richer. So many prioblems in this country and no one to stand up and fix it. Look at all the drug companies making millions while our elders have to choose between their meds, or food. So as long as people are going to write to 'our congress' why not address more of the bigger issues at the same time. We as Americans need to stand and said, NO MORE to alot of things. |

Good luck trying to find anything made in America. I wish we could but all the toys are made in Asia. |

I check labels now, the problem is most products are not made in the USA, but I refuse to buy from China. |

You must be dreaming. Products made in USA are so expensive compared to other countries? Can Americans afford it?
The truth is, because of very high standard of living in US, and the costs of labor that goes with it, its not anymore possible to do what you are thinking. |

it would be significantly more difficult for you to afford to live if all the products you bought were manufactured and produced in america. there is a reson that large companies use foreign workers and that is the price. the people making the goods are being paid next to nothing to produce goods not just for the american market but most western nations.
china is no more a nation of baby killers than america is. the only difference is that in america it is a personal choice whether to abort your baby.
the immense production of american and western goods in foreign countries which use child labour is a similar thing. you could say the america is a nation of childhood killers. works both ways. |

You are right, the corporations & Government have sold out the American people for the last 20 years it has gone from a kitten to a Sabortooth Tiger into the jugguler of the economic & the American way, I don't think the American people have the spirit or the strength to fight what is right for us, It is different today then in the 60s & 70s when masses amounts of people would show up for a cause, now to many people don't really care they are to busy for taking up a cause, they have families, stress and other worries to even to imagine the scope of what is going on and a lot do but dont have the will power to deal with it. the thing I must remember that worry over all things is a waste of energy that will grab us by the neck and strangle us for no matter what we do in life is to focus on ourselves and who we are as a person live life with a positive additude pray to are Higher Power of are choice , and move on , my blog 360 has information on worry, you are right but it is a waste of your time , |
