No matter what your relgion and belief is, you still must do your job. If you can't or won't, then you should be fired. Or better yet, not work at a pharmacy. Don't work at a location that you feel your morals and beliefs will be put to the test on a daily basis. No one matter profession you are in, you must keep your opinions and beliefs to yourself while on the clock. |

Wrong, wrong, wrong !!!!! The woman who went in had every right to buy the pill - if the woman refused on the grounds of her religion then she should be sacked - she is there to serve - NOT to judge xx |

Umm she could say that she can't supply it to you, but should get someone who will. Afterall, it's obviously not her shop - because if it was her shop, she would stock it in the first place. |

Wrong. If her beliefs are so strong that it interferes with her ability to do her job properly, she should look for employment elsewhere. |

Totally wrong. The pharmacist's job has nothing whatsoever to do with her religion. She should be fired. |

So wrong !
It isn't anything to do with her ! |
|

rrrraaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

wrong, it has nothing to do with her! She should be sacked |

Yes i heard this one.
She was not employed on her religion. To work in a pharmacy.at times she would have known she would have to be discreet. So sack her I say |

wrong - everyone's entitled to an opinion but you shouldn't do a job you don't agree with ethically.
You are paid to do a job and it's fairly obvious a pharmacist will have to deal with emergency contraception. |

If healthcare workers object to providing contraceptive or abortion services because of their religion, that's their right. However, they should then direct the patient to someone who *is* prepared to offer those services - what they don't have the right to do is dictate the patient's moral choices. |

This is happening often in pharmacy's across the US, some are also refusing to sell birth control pills. The pharmacy, if it is a chain, will not fire the employee due to fear of law suits.
In my opinion if you choose to use birth control then it should be sold to you, and the employees religious beliefs should not be taken into account. |

I am not sure if it's legally wrong - if she is the shop owner she has the right to refuse service to anyone she wants. It's her shop after all.
(though, ethically speaking - I believe it to be wrong)! |
|

flavia d
|
wrong. legally you are allowed to sell the morning pill over the counter, if she objected to this she should clearly have a sign stating this in full display, but then she could loose her job, or change job |

She was wrong, she works at a pharmacy that sells the pills so she must sell them to the customers and do her job. That is what she gets paid for. |

In the UK a shop-keeper can refuse to serve anyone he likes. When goods are displayed in a shop they are offered for sale, but do not have to be sold.
How ever in this case, if the woman was not the owner of the shop, she should have refer ed you to someone else to be served. If she was the owner of the shop, why did she include this drug in her stock, with no intention to sell it? That is bad business. You should ask to see the boss. |
|

clairelou_lane

That is wrong - she should still sell it even though she does not believe in it herself, she can't force her beliefs on others. Compare it to a restaurant, vegetarian waitresses still serve meals containing meat to customers, it's their job just as it's the pharmacist's job!
I'm in shock, I can't believe that actually happened!! |

Refuses to sell her means she had in stock.
Why did she stock it in the first place? |

neither 'she' is right or wrong. But the patient needs a new Pharmacy and the Pharmacist needs to simply say "we don't carry it".
Also just a quick aside for Alex P. Mormons (you misspelled it) don't have prohibitions against blood transfusions.....or selling Plan B. Check those facts before answering! |
|

Bealzebub
|
Wrong, her religion goes out the door when she's at work. Just in the same way if the child of a Morman can be saved by a blood transfusion the parents cannot refuse it on grounds of their religion. They're beliefs have no place in the decision of somebodies life or death, it's Manslaughter irrespective of reason. The only grounds she can refuse sale of it is if she believes it could harm you in which case she should have booked you in to see a doctor immediately. |

she was wrong.its not her decision to make. she perhaps is in the wrong job. |

WRONG
AND IN WRONG JOB. |

Totally 100% wrong, it is not the pharmacists decision to make, does that mean she wont serve customers buying condoms or dispense the contraceptive pill. A pharmacist is the same as a doctor in this respect, their ethical or religious beleifs should not affect theor work and they must be impartial to their custiomers genuine needs.
The pharmacist should be reported to the trading standards and teh licencing authorities for this |
|

Does she get another member of staff to supply it ? |
|

sarge

Was it due to the customer's religion though? |

A pharmacy is a shop. The staff there are under no obligation to sell anything to anyone if they do not wish.
If the woman had a prescription for the pill then the pharmacist should either supply the prescription or direct her to another pharmacy that will do so.
If the pill was without prescription then there is no absolute right to have it.
In these cases it is worth knowing the contact details for your nearest family planning clinic where there are specialist staff who will always be helpful. |

 |
The woman behind the counter needs to go work somewhere that doesn't sell the morning after pill or change careers!! I don't believe in abortion and I think the moment of conception, there is a soul and if you take that pill and were pregnant you have committed murder. |

Yes she is Right. How can u make a person go against her religious faith. But tell me why the hell woman keep those pills when she is against selling it?
Also if she keeps it why the woman asking it go to pharmacy?
Doesn't she know that such pills r strictly given on doctors prescription? |
