I live in Ohio and I was chatting with this woman whom I babysit for and I explained that I started home schooling because I didn't like my school. She was surprised to hear that I went to this other school since I actually live closer to the school I would like to go to. I tried to get into it a few years ago, but they rejected us since we didn't live in their school district, even though I have seen buses go down my street for that school, and that they had an over crowding problem.
So I was wondering, is there anything I can do to get into that school? Was there a law at all passed that said you had the right to choose which school you went to or something along those lines?

My school isn't in the ghetto, but it's definitely not the best. We have fights everyday, students physically fighting with staff as well as each other, and a lack of education. Teachers will often skip out on teaching if the class misbehaves and makes no notion to correct the behavior after a few days. It's been this way since the beginning of Middle school and hasn't changed at all into high school. We have drug dealers, people who have been to prison, people who have been charged with rape, and the people who sleep around with everyone.
I didn't leave because I just didn't like the school, I left because I didn't feel safe there.

You might be thinking of the No Child Left Behind Act. It says that in certain cases parents have the right to transfer their kids to a different school, but it only applies if the home school is dangerous or has academic probation problems or such things. There are very few schools it applies to, and they are mostly located in the ghettos in the big cities.
btw, I think that not liking your school is the stupidest reason to get homeschooled. You really should reconsider that. |

No you are mistaken. Your parents can choose to send you to another school in your area if your home school (the school you are zoned for) is under performing. This is thanks to the NCLB act. If the school you are supposed to be attending is as bad as you say it may be one of those schools. Google the standardized test results for your state and or county and see if you can find out if your school is considered one of the schools that falls into this category. |
