What's the difference between teen parents being on welfare and teen parents living with their parents.?

There is a user on this site who is a teen dad and he kind of boast about how he is not a welfare, but yet he lives with his parents? My question is what is the difference. I'm not targeting the user, it just got me thinking a lot of teen parents not a welfare that I've seen on Y!A talk about how they are not on welfare and they get pats on the back for it, but they live in their parents house...sooo.

And I have no problem with welfare.

So instead of the gov't he is relying on his parents?

Taxpayers are supporting the teen parent on welfare. His/Her parents are supporting the teen parent not on welfare, which makes since because the parents weren't responsible enough to teach the teen about birth control.

No, there is a big difference. The older set of parents screwed up, they failed to teach their kids that there are consequences for their actions. Therefore, I'm perfectly happy with them supporting both the teens and their offspring.

There is no reason why the public at large should pay for their irresponsibility.

It is who does the paying for it all!

The difference is he is not relying on the government to support him.

I don't know why he is living at home, but hopefully it is so they can help support him and his child (is the child living with him too?) while he finishes school. Also, maybe the parents are making him work for the room and board.

There really is not enough information to know for sure, but at least it is not taxpayer money supporting him if he is doing it as a lazy bum.

*EDIT* - If he is a lazy bum that just doesn't want to get a job (and again, I don't know why he is living at home), would it be better for the government to be paying him out of mine and yours pockets, or is it better if his parents are the only ones that have to support him?

*EDIT2* - But the big difference is that he is now getting his support through private channels, and not relying on public support. Welfare is not suppose to be a solution to your problems. It's suppose to be a helping hand for only a limited amount of time. There are plenty of private organizations that can also help and are funded by private donation (IE: people who want to help instead of people that are forced to help by the government).

Personally, I think it's better that he lives with his parents. For one, his parents failed to educate him properly about condoms and whatnot, or they wouldn't be in this situation, so it's only fair that they and not society at large (aka taxpayers) foot the bill. On the other hand, I can see the wisdom in an argument that for the sake of the innocent child (it wasn't his fault his parents are kids themselves) the family should be given every opportunity for help from the community. Takes a village.

The parents were the ones that were supposed to raise the child better, NOT THE GOVT. The Govt DIDN'T raise the teen. So yeah it is BETTER to rely on your parents then rely on ME as a taxpayer. It's not my fault you went out and got pregnant, or got someone else pregnant, so why should I pay for your responsibilities. Your parents SHOULD have raised you better. Don't tell me "everyone does it" either, because I DIDN'T. That is all the more reason my money shouldn't have to go to it.

The relationship is voluntary.
