My friend, a Freshman in high school, when roughhousing with his chick friend, accidentally punched the chick friend a little too hard (and ended up bruising her.) Now the chick friend is pressing charges. What is the worse that will happen to my Freshman friend?

Depends on how old he is. Since he's a freshman, I'm gonna guess he's under 16, in which case it will likely be a juvenile matter.
If for some reason he's treated like an adult, it will depend on how much trouble he's been in in the past. If he's had his nose clean, he won't get anything more than probation and a stern lecture.
That is, if the prosecutor even cares enough. See, "pressing charges" just means the prosecutor has been requested to pursue the case. If the prosecutor decides there isn't enough evidence or it isn't worth her time, then she'll just let it go. It's completely within the prosecutors discretion. Sounds like this might be the most likely outcome. |
