don't ask your dad to read the order. he already knows what it says and likely will not tell you. contact a family law attorney in your state. some times you can find one that will give you a free consultation and see if they may be able to tell you where you can get a copy of the order yourself and may possibly explain it to you. it all will depend on what is written in the child support order. good luck.

First, child support is not owed to you, it is owed to your mother.

2. no age in divorce decree? it then goes by Alabama laws. which is this: 19 years old unless child is emancipated prior to that(you get married/die etc)

you should take him up on the college fees- that is a very nice gester on his part if you ask me. he is not mandated by the courts to pay that.

Have him read his divorce papers, it spells it out right there! He more than likely HAS to pay til you are 23 or graduate college which ever comes first! Ask to see your Mother's copy or go to the court and get your own copy it's public record!

Ermm im not sure in the UK they stop paying when you stop getting education..but im not sure in Alabama sorryyyy

The only absolute answer anyone here can have is read the child support order. If it doesn't explicitly require him to pay support through college or pay tuition, he probably doesn't have to.

Your Father is correct. I worked my way through college, no reason anybody else can't do that. Check out Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, and scholarship opportunities, they will help a lot.

You're both right. He should continue paying child support as long as your continuing your education. He is in a sense if he is paying for tuition, books e.g. The real question is does it equal the $1500.00 as decided by the courts. If he pays tuition and books and it comes to $1200.00 then he is still obligated to pay the remaining $300.00. If he does not pay then he can be held in contempt of court ruling. No one goes to court for not paying child support, they go because they are in contempt of the court ruling. States may differ with regards to age but i am quite sure about the amount and the continuing education. Check with the court in your town, they should be able to give you the straight facts on it. I believe that he has to continue to pay if you go to college you can always contact your local child support office and I'm sure they can give the correct answer

I'm familiar with the law as the child turning 18 OR when they graduate from high school...which ever happens SECOND.

I hope yr mom saved a little each month for this day . Yr dad and yr mom know the court order and it is not yr worry anyway. Unless he is a rich man, he shouldn't have to pay for U to go to college, much less until U graduate!! Get a job!!
