the Obama administration will give for the bribe offered to Sestak? That President Bush did it? That it's just politics? Not a big deal? Rahm Emanuel gave Bill Clinton the go ahead to offer Sestak a position (paid or not is irrelevant in the eyes of the law) to drop out of the race in PA so as not to challenge Rep. turned Dem. Arlen Specter. That my friends is a violation of federal law. Offering some sort of goods (in this case an unpaid position in the White House) to alter the results of an election is a FEDERAL CRIME! Is Obama going to say the buck stops with him but that he had no knowledge? How is the White House going to spin this?

@armchair....please stay current. Not talking about Reagan or Bush. This is about Clinton (with Emanuels blessing) offering a position to Sestak in the White House. If you would read the federal statute, it doesn't differentiate paid or on-paid. It was a bribe to get out of the race. That is a BRIBE....ILLEGAL. So your no-harm, no-foul point is invalid. Read the law.

The so-called "bribe" was not in the same category as a bribe, since no money was offered and the gentle push to stay in the House was because we don't want to lose any seats in the House for the Democrats this upcoming mid-term election. Ronald Reagan offered a PAID ambassadorship to keep someone out of the race, and the Bush/Cheney administration threatened more than one Independent Prosecutor with negative repercussions if these prosecutors did not "come up" with something against Democrats during an election year. President Clinton is NOT an "administration official" and did NOT push the issue---he simply asked if Admiral Sestak had considered the possibility of remaining in the House and perhaps filling an unpaid position in order to build status and position himself better in upcoming elections. When Adm. Sestek said no, there was no pressure applied at all---the subject was changed and the conversation moved on to other things. No harm, no foul. And Sestak WON against an 80-year-old Arnold Specter---perhaps he was able to firm up his resolve by saying no to the alternative. And this is a PRIMARY---there is still the ELECTION to go. No election has yet take place, if you'll note. No spin needed, although the GOP is busy trying to do a tail-spin it seems. |
