What are some reasons to legalize marijuana?

Well, for one thing it makes absolutely no sense that pot is illegal while alcohol and tobacco (both of which are MORE harmful and MORE addictive) are legal.

Legalization would:

- Create thousands of jobs
- Deal a huge blow to criminal networks, which would suddenly be without a HUGE source of income
- Provide an enormous windfall for the government, who would bring in billions in taxes (ending Prohibition played a big part in getting the U.S. out of the Great Depression)
- Allow police, courts and prisons to focus on REAL criminals.

Because we need more unemployable losers who need public assistance to take care of their children.

We need more Lawsuits on:
Doctors / Nurses on drug at work who would give wrong prescriptions.
Pilot crashing his plane onto the neighbors during take off just because he smoked a few legal marijuana joins before flight.
Taxi Drivers drive off the freeway with a few marijuana butts in the ash tray and plow into a crowd of people.
Police Officers arrest someone by mistake because he doped.
Workers sue his or her employers for injury after smoking some legal marijuana. etc.....so on and so on.

It has a medicinal value that has been exposed. It isn't a painkiller, but more of make you not feel anything at all. Like ecstasy, or numbness, kinda hard to explain. It can be used on patients with horrible injuries(gun shot wounds, missing limbs/amputations, post-surgery pain, etc.-The major pains)

Quirk

As controlled substances go, its effects are comparably harmless.

The money and resources spent investigating, arresting, having trials and housing in prisons those guilty of possession or selling of marijuana could instead be better spent on offenders who posses / sell drugs that are much more dangerous.

I'm not particuarly advocating legalization. But it seems to me that if you're trying to put out a building that's on fire you don't divide the water up into 10,000 water pistols and then send 25% of the firemen to squirt a patch of grass burning across the street.
