What are your Pros and cos of the death penalty?

Pro:
It's just if they did the crime.
Con:
I have never seen justice in any court. With all the crooked judges, law enforcement officers and lawyers, an innocent person could be easily convicted.

Pro: Same as what you said: It is just if they did the crime.
Con: It can literally cost millions of dollars to convict and carry out the death penalty...Money that shouldn't be spent in any way, shape, or form on someone who is enough of a lowlife to break the law in the first place...Money that could be spent paying teachers, nurses, doctors, going toward charities, etc...
BTW, it can cost more to carry out the death penalty than it would to keep a prisoner incarcerated for life. Not always the case, but possible. Pretty staggering, eh? |

Death is a good deterrant for normal people. I am not sure about fanatics who blow themselves up for paradise. |

Con:
- Mistakes happen. In the last 35 years in the U.S., 130 people have been released from death row because they were exonerated by DNA evidence (DNA is not available in most homicide cases).
- It costs taxpayers MUCH more to execute someone than to imprison them for life.
- It is not a deterrent - violent crime rates are HIGHER in death penalty jurisdictions.
- It is inconsistently and arbitrarily applied.
- Jesus was against it (see Matthew 5:7 & 5:38-39, James 4:12, Romans 12:17-21, and John 8:7).
- Life without parole (LWOP) is on the books in most states now, and it means what it says. People who get this sentence are taken off the streets. For good. |

Too many mistakes. Just recently 1 man was let off death row where he had been for 27 years for Arson. They proved it was an accident and not set, like they claimed.
Another man was found innocent by DNA. Unfortunately, he was already executed!
Too many mistakes and some real miscarriages of justice, both ways. Does anyone believe OJ is innocent? |

but really, no one deserves to die.. because you are letting them off easy, i would rather people deserve to do their time in the cell,because whats the point of punishing them, they are just getting out of it to easy... |
