I don't care for it.
I've seen too many people get promotions because of their skin color, not because of their abilities.
If all things being equal, you had two applicants of equal skill sets, then use affirmative action as the tie breaker. But don't use it before the starters pistol has even fired. |

Unless you think black people and women are too stupid to get jobs themselves, you should be against it. I think that women and black people can do anything they wish, and see no need for government help.
Besides, there is no need for regulation of businesses. If they pass over a more qualified candidate for a position because of its race or gender the company will lose money. There is a fine built in to the market for racist hiring policies. |

It is an unnescessary crutch. It is hard to promote equality for people, say they are equal, then have to give handouts to them. Isn't that the same as saying your not equal? It is racist. And it will not help to end predjudice. Ending predjudice begins in the home, not in the white house
It is the same as someone saying, "I don't think you are capable of doing something on your own, so here is a handicap." It kind of takes all of the self accomplishment out of......accomplishment. |

If affirmative action means lowering the standards, then I am 100% against it. I have no problem with giving preference to minorities if needed as long as they are basically as qualified as those they would receive preference over. And I would think minorities would mostly agree, because to lower the standards give less incentive to excel.
In general, I think more emphasis needs to be placed on improving the education of minorities, rather than using affirmative action policies when they are adults. Our government's biggest priority should be improving the elementary and secondary education for all students - but especially those in economically depressed areas. |

It's a total scam. For instance try a large city test for their fire department. Minorities don't have to score as high on the tests as whites and get in before them. It is reverse discrimination. |

I feel that forcing someone to hire someone else is wrong.
But then again, in the US, there are many companies that will just not hire minorities unless they are forced.
So, 50/50 on it. |

I think its a great idea , but its real-life apllication is terrible. Affirmative Action was put in place to give minorities a justified , and equal chance for employment oppurtunities. However most places use it like a profiling checklist of what " type of person " to hire instead of basing it on job qualifications , which i feel is far more importtant. |

Balance it out some when people with lower intel can get a scholarship because of thier color i get pissed. They could always try and have a scholarship for white middle class kids since everyone else gets one but us. |

I be live it's justified where there has been a pattern of discrimination.
Look at it like this. George Bush didn't have good enough grades to get into Yale. But, they let him in as a "legacy" (His dad did have the grades and did good in college). If it's good enough to give the President special treatment then were are all special and deserving of special treatment. |

I am for it to a certain extent. How do you call it racist if it says an institution must hire a certain amount of women? I would not feel right if I got a job just because of the color of my skin. Most people who land these jobs, are qualified. But there has to be someone who says they get it because they are qualified but not because they are qualified and White. |

More or less I believe that it helps minorities. Unfortunately AA is classified as reverse racism by caucasians because they do not benefit from it. However to grow up as a minority and facing racism in the very free USA is what they do not understand. A lot of things hinder people on continuing striving higher life in the country arise from racism. There will absolutely be arguments saying that it is the so and so people that don't want to work and collect benefits. YES there are but don't let a few people ruin the hardworkers of the same minority group. I do feel that AA needs a reevaluation in its strictness but that it does not need to be eliminated. Come to New York City and see the filthy rich to the filthy poor. |
