What are your views on the death penalty?

Mine are simply that i dont believe in it at all. Whatever crime it is murder, rape anything i think that you are just as bad for doing the same or close to the same thing to the person. And many criminals want to die so basically your giving them what they want. The fact that people can buy tickets to see someone being injected is disgusting to me. And who are we to say that someone is to die, it playing god in my mind.

I don't believe in the death penalty, period! We use it WAY TO OFTEN here in the United States!

Look how many people have been released from death row in the past 10 to 15 years because DNA proved they were not guilty!

What most people don't know or seem to care about here is how many executions here in the States have gone wrong and the condemned man/woman died horribly!

There was an electrocution in the State of Florida back in 1999 where the man being executed had his nose broken before the electrocution even started because the guard put the leather strap that holds the persons head in place in the wrong spot and the man could not breathe! When the electricity was finally turned on, the man, who suffered from high blood pressure, had blood explode out of his nose and a large pool of blood formed on the front of the mans white shirt! The judge who sentenced him to death found out and had the pictures the prison staff took of the man just after the execution posted on the web and has now become an anti-death penalty judge!

There was an electrocution a few years before that in the State of Texas I belief where the man being executed had his head burst into flame because the cone on his head had a faulty wire!

Those are just two of over 60 cases I have researched on mistakes made during executions here in the United States that have caused the condemned to suffer horrible and very cruel deaths!

I will never understand how any country that calls itself civilized can pass laws saying that murder is wrong, and it is, and then go and do the same thing to a person they convict of murdering someone!

In case you or anyone reading this doesn't know, when a person in the United States is executed, the coroner by law has to list the persons death as a homicide! Which the American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language
states is = NOUN:

The killing of one person by another.
A person who kills another person.

Which in this country is a class X felony, and can get the murderer the death penaly in most states, but you don't here about the executioners being arrested and tried for murder, do you?

Peace!

I absolutely agree with you. I think that these criminals should get psychological help rather than being killed themselves. It's just an ongoing cycle, and putting them to death doesn't solve anything. As long as they are in prison, then it should be enough justice for the families/friends of the victims. That's what I believe.

the death penalty does NOT deter crime...it only saves taxpayers $$$

I'm not for it at all. I think life in prison is a far more severe and lasting punishment.

It doesn't deter crime, nor does it save money. Because the state has to exhaust all legal avenues, and guarantee a person is guilty of a crime (that cannot really happen without a confession), the money spent to push the case through the judicial system is much more expensive than keeping a prisoner incarcerated for life.

Plus, with prisons now being built for profit, living convicts become slave labor. Even though I meant that as a joke, unfortunately it is becoming a reality.

I agree. #1 you shouldn't determine who should be put to death, and #2, putting a murderer to death is too easy of a punishment (not to sound sadistic or anything), they should be put in prison to suffer like they made others suffer.

I AM ALL FOR THE DEATH PENALTY, IF THEY CONVICTED ARE TRULY GUILTY THEY SHOULD DIE THE WAY THEIR VICTIMS DIED ONLY MORE SLOWLY AND PAINFULLY... IN THE BIBLE IT SAYS AN EYE FOR AN EYE SO NO WE ARE NOT PLAYING GOD WE ARE REDEEMING JUSTICE TO THEIR VICTIMS WHO DIED BEFORE GOD WANTED THEM TO DIE... I WOULDNT DO A TICKET FOR NO DEATH BUT IF IT WAS ONE OF MY FAMILY AND CHILDREN I WANT TO PULL THE SWITCH AND DO TO THEM WHAT THEY DID TO ONE OF MY FAMILYT

Letting murderers and rapists sit around in prison isn't any better. Of course, if you don't mind paying for them to stay there (our taxes pay for the prison system too), that's fine. Obviously though, these people have no respect for human life. Why should they be allowed to keep their own lives? I don't think it is good that people are able to buy tickets to watch the proceedings though.

DUDE!!!
yea right, why should we keep this kind of trash in prison for the rest of their lives??? i dont like to see my tax dollars wasted on them. or would you rather turn a rapist loose ??? you could be his next victim. then ill bet you would think different if you lived through it.

First, capitalize God when you use His name in a sentence. Whether you believe in Him or not, it is a sign of respect, and should be done for all religions, cities, states, countries, etc.

As for the dealth penalty, I think it is necessary. If someone were to rape and kill my sister, my family and I would never get her back no matter what, but knowing that the awful person who did that to her and took her away from us is now himself going to die, and no longer see his family/friends, is a certain closure that we would need.

Im not only for it Im for doing it in public like the old hangings, as well as public floggings ect. The amount of money spent keeping them in jail indefinitely is like 40G a year, when a couple of 2 x 4's and some rope only go for a couple of 20's
