do you think the goverment should call for every man to have a DNA test and have them put on file for police use?
and, if men who dont want it done, should they be forced to? or do they have something to hide?
would you have it done? if not, why not?
i think if this was done it would solve thousands of crimes and would prevent alot more and i think it should be put in place now.
i also think if this was put in place there would be alot of worried people out there.
i would definately have this done.

i think they should do it for men and women and start taking dna at birth so everyone would be on a ntional database.

you are right-if you have nothing to hide, whats the problem?

im not sure it will happen though, because you will get all the liberals screaming about violating human rights. i couldnt give a stuff about a rapists human rights and if this allowed them to be caught i would happily go down the station now and give them my dna/

Okay, Bat, I have your DNA. From that sample I can tell if you are at risk for any inherited illnesses and deny you health insurance. I can also look for any abnormalities in your DNA that you might pass on to your children, so, of course, I would have to warn any woman you want to marry that you are "substandard". Any potential employer would want to know if your DNA held any risks for them, no point in hiring someone who may have to actually use sick days. Later on, if the Government decides that there are just too many of whatever type person you are, you can be easily identified and sterilized. What the heck, as long as I have all of this DNA, I might as well do a few secret studies to find out what DNA types turn in to criminals and separate them from society before they become a problem. I can also do secret studies to see which altered DNA strands might make nice drones. . .

And so on and so on. The potential abuses are limitless.

I'll keep my DNA to myself, thank you.

I am a person of good character, and there is no way on earth that the police/government is going to ever get my DNA. They have no entitlement to it, and I will not give it. I have done nothing wrong, and my privacy must be respected.

It may solve a few outstanding crimes, but it would cost billions of pounds to do it, meaning it is completely out of proportion to the problem. It will not prevent crime at all, as it hasn't done so up until now, and only very few cases are solved through the use of DNA.

The idea of a DNA database is flawed from the outset.

I am female and think that it is unhealthy to impose this kind of ruling. DNA can be abused just as fingerprints can be lifted.
I used to watch TV. Yes I too would be worried about the whereabouts of my DNA.
Yet I think a DNA bank, could be a way forward for people like yourself who want to provide.

I think all the 'I've got nothing to hide' brigade should give their DNA, and noone else.

Very bad idea. Cost to government would be exorbitant. Too socialized. You must be a democrat.

No! because if your not a criminal, they might always see you as a suspect, and what if there is a flaw in the DNA and your accused for something you didn't do? I think DNA test should only be given to suspects. Your just making the law easier for them by doing this and they won't have to work as hard for their money. Until your a suspect or a convicted criminal, that's when you should have a DNA test.

People who assert the right of privacy by refusing the very sort of things you propose are protecting their own and your rights as well. Remember the words of Benjamin Franklin: "He who can trade liberty for a little security deserves neither."

Pseudonym45
Are you using the word men to include women, as I don't see why they should be left out. I don't have a problem with my DNA being held, but I can understand that some people might object. DNA isn't always 100% accurate either. Miscarriages of justice still happen, even when DNA is supposed to be the proof.

i think it is a really good thing, the people that don't want it 'are the people that have something to hide, all the best

Yes, why not do it for everyone at birth?
Ditto for micro-chipping too. If we can love our pets enough to have them "chipped" then we should have no qualms if we wanted at least the same security for our children.

Both men and women yes, it would save a lot of time for police and CSA.

yes its a good idea, and its like you said if no-one has anything to hide then there is no problem, and if you are a law abiding honest citizen then you would look at this as a positive.

Yes it should be done i think. It would save alot of time in crime cases. Also women too though as it is not just men who commit crime.
