I'm still amazed that people allow their personal liberties to be hampered and tax dollars wasted by restrictive and ineffective drug laws. The government's job is to serve and protect its constituency. Criminalizing marijuana does neither. Pushing aside the fact that medicinal marijuana has proven equally as effective in pain and pressure relief (cancer and glaucoma), anxiety (OCD) and appetite enhancement (AIDS), its toxicity and potential for addiction in comparison to alcohol and tobacco are infinitesimally low. Moreover, think of the tax revenues, budget slashes and crime reduction that would occur within the first year of marijuana legalization.

To me, the question is not "should marijuana be legal" but "why isn't it already".

Ha well they might as well make it legal. I smoke cigarettes sometimes but I put a hold on marijuana. Kids are going to smoke it if they are of the age or not. Cigarettes are about $4 a carton and it's real expensive. I don't even know why I bother with the damn things. But people are going to smoke weed if its legal or not too. I agree just to tax the crap outta it.

First of all, smoking *anything* is incredibly stupid. But that isn't reason enough to make it criminal. We have too many "self-improvement" laws as it is. So with that in mind, tobacco should not be illegal. Too many people enjoy smoking, so It would be impossible to enforce such a law. We'd end up spending a lot of badly needed funds on ridiculous nanny-state law enforcement, and most of the newly-created "criminals" (smokers) would get away with the crime anyway.

Marijuana should also be made legal for ADULTS (for the same reason), but--- this is critical--- can we first please figure out how to keep it away from kids? Teens need to be sober. They need to get through school and make the transition to adulthood with a clear head. The staggering number of teen alcoholics is not only an indictment of their parents, it's an indictment of society. Let's not add even more teen pot-heads to the mix.

They should both be legal. If you don't need them or enjoy them once in awhile, that is your decision. I prefer taking something that I know won't kill me. I don't like taking a pill that makes me feel high all day long, I just want to smoke a joint which will give me a couple hours to relax and allow me to recharge. It's my choice and I respect others when I do it. Before they made smoking illegal in restaurants, I didn't smoke in them. I hated smoking as a child and I do not want to make anyone else uncomfortable. However it should be the owner's choice. It should only be allowed in designated areas. The same laws that apply to cigarettes should apply to marijuana.

Marijuana is less dangerous than both alcohol and tobacco - both legal drugs, so why cant we legalise and tax marijuana? i see nothing wrong with marijuana use atall and am a user myself

I think Darwin is right. We need to legalize pot along with tobacco so the idiots can die faster leaving us smarter non-smoker, non-pot heads around to improve the race.
