Her parents are split up (or rather, were never married) but share custody. She stays with her father every other weekend.
Her mother`s husband lost his job because he failed a drug test. Her mother and stepfather`s living expenses are $2k a month, yet they make less than $800 a month. Her mother does not buy her any food at all. The only time she eats is when she is with me (which I try to make every day because I hate for her to go a day without food). Her mother tells her on a daily basis that she was the result of a one night stand, she wants her to be unhappy, she was a mistake, etc. Her mother and father are also chronic pot smokers and smoke in front of her.
Her dad is worse than that. He is abusive verbally and physically. He grows his own marijuana. The only plus side to staying with her dad is that he has food (which is usually just a bag of chips or slim jims).
Needless to say this girl has suffered through horrible attacks from her parents, emotionally and physically.
My parents want to take her in. My parents are honest, hard working church goers. They live in a house that they worked their whole lives to buy. They can provide her with shelter, food, and love. She wants to live with them.
What can be done? She is terrified of her parents and even more terrified of living with people she has never met (foster parents, etc.). All of this is taking place in Florida.

Also, she has called the cops on her dad before. He claimed she put the marks on her face and so the cops did nothing to help her. Her dad only became more angry towards her.
Her father also happens to be friends with a DA who gets him out of any legal trouble that might come his way.
She tells me that her dad would simply say *I didn`t abuse her, I was simply punishing her for being bad.*

Unfortunately, in Florida, if you are under 18 you are not considered an adult, and therefore have no legal rights.
Since she is 16, she try to be emancipated, but her legal parents need to file it. She would technically be on her own if was approved and it would be the kindness (not legal responsibility) of your parents to take her in.
I believe there might be a way of filing an emancipation if her parents refuse... |

Someone needs to step in and do something about this girl to improve her situation. If your parents are willing, I'd tell them to consult a lawyer about this.
I was raised by parents who had the parenting instincts of hyenas. I've gotten my life straightened out, but I won't ever get over it. To have the people you are supposed to be able to trust to protect and love you behave that way is something that stays with you forever.
Get this girl into a family who will love and support her. It's something we all need to thrive. |

I second dingobluefoot wholeheartedly. This poor girl is going through every kind of abuse imaginable. She needs to find a child abuse advocate or social worker who can get her out of this situation and into a loving and caring home. Hopefully soon. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to get hidden camera evidence of this abuse. About the only way to beat a guy who is cozy with a DA. These parents should be in jail and if they treated anyone but their own child like that they would have been a long time ago. How freaking sick is that? Keep trying its the only way to find someone who can help. Get social services to make a surprise visit, maybe they'll catch something happening, Keep talking to police, social services, victims groups, anybody who will listen. It may help to keep a diary of the abuse as painful as that sounds you won't have to rely on memory for what happened and when. Find a best friend to confide in. That helps keep you sane and you're not alone when it comes time to confront these miserable excuses for parents. I grew up in a loving home with a caring mother and father, but I've seen abuse and what it does to otherwise nice decent kids. Hoping and praying things get better for this girl. |

This is definitely a dysfunctional family at its worst, and obviously all parents are addicts. Smoking and growing pot is ILLEGAL.
Tell her to go to a youth shelter, or get sufficient evidence on all parties involved and approach a judge, or at worst case, run away. |
