You were better than I would have been. I would have called the police and asked them to come to your office because you had been assaulted. That would have been the right thing to do.
. I'm glad to hear that you went to your supervisor but again I think you should have done more. I would have written a letter outlining what had happened and included a copy of the police report. The supervisor would have had to discuss it with this individual and it would have went into his file. So, even if nothing more came of it - it would still follow this individual and would not be forgotten. Since you have not done that ..I would write the letter immediately. I would cc: Human Resources and the individual in question. Where I work a similar incident arose and the HR department called him in and counseled him re: the incident and they put him on notice. One day he became verbally abusive and they fired him on the spot. Then...I would tell this co-worker that you have filed a complaint and if he every tries anything again you will have him arrested and charged with assault. If you would rather not confront him that is understandable. If this is the case I would let the letter say it all. That should set him straight, It will be interesting to see what the main supervisor does and he is required to do something. If you are worried that this co-worker could become abusive again you could get a restraining order placed against him but that is a bit extreme at this point. I would do it though if you felt threatened by him in any way. Good luck and I hope next time you will take action if this occurs in any manner at all |

Good lord, are you serious? You really should report it to the police. |

Call the police and report it as you would report any stranger who walked up to you and did that. The fact that he works with you makes no difference: it is assault. |

what would you do if that happened on the street? either get up and knock him on his butt or file criminal charges and then knock him on his butt. |

FIrstly I would've kicked his ***, or at the very least call some people and send him to the hospital...but that's just my ghetto side getting to me...now I work in an office...lol....I would file a police report and talk to the supervisor.
Oh...I think assault is the treat of a physical harm, battery is the actual physical harm. |

You can do three things:
1. Go to the police and have him charged with assault and battery. You have a case.
2. Go to a lawyer and file a civil law suite for damages for the battery. Battery is defined in law as any physical touch to your body that occurs without your consent. You don't have to prove you were hurt/damaged, only that you were touched. Your compensation is for your emotional injury and his offense against your person.
Of course #3 is filing a charge against him in your workplace. |

You've confused assault with battery. The minute he touched you without your permission it became a battery. File charges with the Police and have the SonofaB-gun arrested. |

You can report him to your supervisor and you can also report this incident to the local police department.
File legal charges against the assaultant, and with a witness, you will certainly teach the bully a lesson.
He might even do some jail time.
A protective order against him would make him seek employment elsewhere.

I would have called the cops right then and there. Yes, it is assault. File a criminal complaint, and file a complaint with your HR department; if they do not act on this, they are creating a 'hostile work environment'. |

Yeah, it's assault and you could have called the police and filed charges. If you don't feel the mark he left is adequate try hooking up a cam to your computer and stick it down low among a bunch of pencils or other objects to hide it. Set a hotkey up (like control-r) so you can set it to start recording when he comes around you. With proof like that you can get him fired and locked up for a nice long time.
I myself would have grabbed the nearest blunt object and bashed him in the face as hard as I could but I'm crazy and have already been in jail for impulsive crap that I've done. You may not want to be like me. |

You are the only one that knows how serious this situation is!
Is this person going to be a problem in the future? Is it enough for him to face the music of the supervisor?
If you want to follow it up by going to the Police, you need to decide before it gets too old! Is it serious enough to take that step? Is this person going to cause you bodily harm in the future?
You need to have closure! You cannot accept going to work if you fear for your health or being hurt. However, there is such as going overboard.
Pray about it and do what you really need to to protect yourself -- not to avenge yourself! |
