You are not allowed to wear a helmet or a mask into a bank so why should they be allowed to wear veils religion does not come into it you follow the rules of your adopted country as we would have too obey their laws if we visit their country.

Well, you can't go into some places with a baseball cap on your head or other places with a crash helmet so there will be places where full veils will not be appropriate and the wearer must either conform to this or forgo visiting the place. That's their choice.

By the way, it was a few years ago that customs stopped checking identities of people leaving the country, at the Channel ports anyway, to save money, so the police killer might have got away undisguised.

I think that they should have the right, except when it conflicts with a legal requirement, like the driver's license thing.

Despite what some people say, there is no requirement in the Quran for women to cover every inch of skin, the requirement is to "Dress Modestly".

If I walked around in a Ski Mask, I would be arrested. If I walked into a Bank wearing a ski mask, they would trigger a silent alarm and I would be arrested. If I walked into a shop and wore a Motorcycle helmet they would think they are being robbed. If a Woman wears a Veil when driving she can be arrested.

We are so afraid of offending Muslims that we wont put up Christmas Trees in Schools and Offices. Time to get back to our roots and Christian Values. Most Muslims who have integrated into Western Society are not offended by Christmas Trees and such and the vocal minority who dont accept Western Values should be deported even if they were born in the West. Muslims argue that Catholic Nuns wear "The Veil" but I have never seen a Nun cover her face.

Lets make make Brittain British, Ireland Irish, France French etc. Lets demand that people subscribe to the values of the country they live in. Lets ban Muslim Schools and Schools of any Minority who wants to impose their values on us. Remember that Islam is not a Country, it is just a "Religion" and Religion has no place in Politics.

very political ...as i see it...when in Rome do as Romans do....ever been to Muslim country? what i had to do was cover up because it was their culture...so it follows for our safety they should respect our culture... if the rules they don't like... go to live in a Muslim country.....i have sympathy for their strong beliefs but am more concerned for personal safety ...they have a choice live in Muslim country or abide by western rules

I can see were in court or other situations it should be removed. It's not discrimination it's a matter of security. If I had a custom and knew I was going to a place that it wasn't allowed I would discontinue my custom or not go...

I think in the current climate it is inappropriate, and unnecessary. I dont see how covering your whole face ensures you safety - a rapist is going to rape you whether he sees your face or not. It is voluntary separation and since the Qu'ran does not require it, it is surplus to requirements and more of a statement than anything else.

Here we use photo ID for passports and driving licences so until we can check fingerprints quickly the face MUST be visible.

Are you talking about a burka -- the sack-like thing with just a little mesh screen to look through?
I think it's OK if a woman wants to wear one, but you're right about the safety issue.

There are some activities/jobs that sould be off-limits to anyone wearing any kind of outfit that hinders movement or interferes with your vision.
In the USA, OSHA [work-place safety] regulations & job descriptions have been in place for decades, so a burka would be treated like any other clothing in the work-place. States already have regualtion about operating machinery, vehicles, etc.

As far as just the wearing of it, I think it's a personal choice like having pink-&-purple hair, nipple rings, micro-minis, and baggy pants.

when in Rome do as the Romans do.they can wear there veils in there own countries,but in western society i don't think it is acceptable.when you visit Islamic countries you are not allowed to drink,women aren't allowed to show there legs etc.why should they do whatever they want whilst in Britain.

I lived in Earls Court - London, and was amazed at the number of women - who trailed I think 5 steps behind whoever was the male in front and think it is wrong that veils are deemed right

Until the government started to make a fuss about it I didn't realise it was a problem. I've never felt threatened by it and I've never viewed it as a barrier.
I would object if women were being forced to wear them but that's not my impression. The impression I have is that the women behind the veils are young and intelligent. It common to see a group of girls with a variety of dress from the veil, through headscarves to bare headed together. I suspect that the more people object to it, the more young Muslim women will wear it; that is the nature of youth.
You don't need to wear a veil to leave the country unnoticed; you just walk through.
I've seen quite a few women wearing veils with jeans; with the veil tucked into the headscarf there's no loose cloth to cause H&S concerns.
I can see ID might be an issue but it always has been; why the sudden hysteria?

I actually believe that if Muslims want to live in the UK they should at the very least conform to our traditions and wear European clothes not their veils.

it's wrong they shouldn't be allowed to wear them, think of the security issue, after the killing of a British police woman, it's thought that one of the murdering scum bags escaped the country wearing a veil, if he can get away with it so could any other would be bomber/terrorist. Your not allowed into banks etc with crash helmets on or hoodies up, so why a veil? not only that i personally find it very offencive and ugly every one i see screams terrorist to me. time to ban them across the board if the wearers don't like it they should return to the country where they belong.

They should be allowed to make their own decision, however it should be their decision, not someone else's, such as a priest or husband. There are though certain practical difficulties with this manner of dress, see below.
If a motorcyclist in a full face helmet and balaclava goes into a bank or post office etc, they are asked to remove it. A person in a stocking mask or other obvious mask would probably result in a full alarm and a response by armed police. Do you think The full veil should be an exception? It must be unbearably hot in summer months, why would anyone want to wear it? Screening your face does cut you off from others to some extent.
I hate religious and racial intolerance, this comment is not motivated by either.
They should be prepared to reveal their face if their is a good reason.
Nuns should be subjected to the same conditions of course, we all should.

It was a safety issue when this tradition was started some 1500 years ago.
Now it is not required but people don't want to change.

one who compares the muslim veil to a helmet is really simple minded but lets compare it with anuns veil do you think she must be forced to take it of in a bank ? who can force her ? Yes its is asign of submission but to God not to men .Now when you are commited to religion you have to live by its rules .With christianity the matter is elastic you can change any rule according to the way yoy see things .for example a priest can allow gay marrige and tells you its allowed in the bible.thats why your comunities lost controle .am not attacking your religion am attacking the way you play with the rules why do you think nuns ware veils look at saint mary isnt she asymbol to achristian women did you ever see her photo wearing shorts or abikini or even without veil .?
