What do you think about all the paid holidays Government workers get and should they?

They should only get the same benefits as WalMart and Ronnie McDonald workers get. And they should have the same retirement system as the rest of us are getting scammed with.

Not just govt workers get paid for holidays.

Every job I have ever had always paid extra when I had to work on Christmas, and some other holidays.

It's called Holiday pay, and we all get it, even people who work at McDonald's gets *holiday pay*.

If the gov't is going to dictate a holiday, then gov't workers should get paid for those holidays because they don't have the option of working that day.

They get 10 days off. Big deal. Most private companies get about 8 (they don't take President's Day and Veteran's Day).

These are federal holidays passed by Congress, if you don't like it tell your Congressman to repeal the holiday and save taxpayer dollars.

I work for the government and I agree that it should be in line with the private sector. It's a waste of taxpayer dollar, but since I'm benefitting I'm sure as hell not complaining.

But's that nothing. Try 28 days of vacation a year for employees with 15 yrs of fed service. Now nobody tops that.

I dont know to which workers you are referring, but as a former military member I can guarantee everyday off is needed. I do admit that the military do get many days off, but i will also say that i have worked 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week for a month or two at a a time. so yes for the military it is necessary because there is a lot of BS we had to deal with.

I have no problem with any workers getting holidays off with pay if they can get it. Remember Government workers trade off lower pay then the private sector for better job security and benefits.

If they elect to give themselves all those holidays, they should do the same for the ordinary worker. They are suppposed to be working for the people, but it seems more and more that we are working to support their lavish lifestyles and ridiculous holidays.

Germany treats their citizens way better from what I hear....higher wages ....6 weeks a year off.....don't we deserve that ?!

Well, it's kind of hard to tell a federal employee that the government he works for won't give him the holiday that the very same government imposes. That wouldn't make much sense. I wish there was a way, because coming back to work on a Tuesday after a Monday off is an absolute NIGHTMARE with the workload doubled at least. I know a lot of people think we just sit around doing nothing, but that is far from the truth for the majority. The bigger problem for me is all of the leave. I don't know how they expect anyone to take that much time off and accomplish anything. I have to use about 25 days per year of leave and thats just to keep from losing it, so I still have another 25-30 days rolled over to the next year. That's five full weeks! You won't find many in the private sector with that kind of time off, and personally I would rather have about half of the vacation time, and a raise more equal to what the private sector makes.

I think that they should get them. Both my parents work for the government as civilians, and they are overworked.

Well, since I too get paid holidays and I don't work for the government, who am I to complain?

It represents a big part of the national debt in this country. I believe we need some sacrifice from the bureaucrats in this country. We need them to give us two unpaid work days each year, especially those who never served in the military but get a paid holiday every Memorial day, July 4th, Veteran's day, and a handful of holidays that know one else gets off.

I'm a six year Marine Corps veteran and I have never been off work on Veterans day, nor have I ever been paid for the day ! What's wrong with this picture ?

Nobody should ever get any vacations. We should have prisoners do all the work for free.
