What do you think about prisoners in Doncaster prison having to sleep in the toilet area. The thought of it?

really breaks me up. It is probably as good a deterrent as you can get to keep them out of jail

MADDOG
What?? Since when did they get toilets?

♥brutal♥
yeh i read that yesterday (i live in doncaster, although not in the prison ;-) ) and they deserve it - they get to watch TV during the day fgs, its hardly a hardship to sleep by the p!sspot is it?

JOHN B
Must be awful for them. Let's get "Whip round" from all the people they have committed criminal acts upon, whose lives in some cases have ruined and destroyed.
The P.C. brigade will come to their rescue, until, that is, they commit similar crimes against them, they it will a case of a slightly different view?

Sh*t belongs in toilets....

Prisoners are treated with more respect than ever in the UK now, Prisons are almost like hotels. I would not be seen in one though.

If they were'nt criminals they could be sleeping in their own beds - so tough.

It's a prison not a hotel.
They are lucky to have toilets,I would send them to prison in third world countries.

It's obviously not pleasant to have to sleep in a toilet area but prison should not be pleasant or comfortable. I have little sympathy for criminals serving time, I reserve my sympathy for victims of crime.

malgoss
they made people feel like their lifes were a toilet so its kinda justice for em

Perhaps we,re trying to get up to date with India and Thailand and all the prisons people don,t want to be in!!

"omg"! I got em starin
Hell yea I'll tell you my thoughts. Another person just asked a question similiar to this one except she asked why should overcrowding be a problem. And I'mma copy and paste and tell you exactly what I told her and I'll tell anybody else the same thing.

1.Because when there isn't enough room in prison people who are on trial or have been sentenced are more likey to get the self surrender option(a date when they surrender them selves). And that's just longer for more criminals to walk the streets.

2.the more people you put in a prison the more food you have to buy, water and energy have to be used etc. And the people in there don't work obviously so who's paying for their living. American's with jobs who pay taxes that's who. And the prisons CANNOT cut the food amount gien to a single person (it's not much anyways most of the time), and cut the use of energy and water, like they're living in the slum. Because it's not an option, unethical, and illegal. So if the budgets of prisons all over the U.S start breaking down taxes will have to be raised.

3. With more prisoners comes more prison guards. And that's not an ideal job so sometimes it'll be pretty hard to find them. And if you raise the number of prisoners so much as 10-15 % without adding new guards I guarantee you'll have a dead guard on your hands in a really short period of time.

4.Because they're people dammit. They weren't sent to prison for their lives to be made a living hell and we as people somwtimes forget that. They were sent because they did wrong and paying the price, so they won't be a threat to society any longer, and maybe to chage. We also sometimes forget what's on the back of every prison jumpsuit. A DOC number DOC standing for (Department of Corrections). A lot of people change or CORRECT their old ways in prison. And try to better themselves and their already away from home and their family basically 24/7 so the prisons should have the decency to provide them with their basic needs And I don't think it's wrong to love and still care about someone even if they did wrong.Even if it was wrong enough to land them in prison.Think aboout it, if your child made a mistake and broke the law and had to serve time in prison could you just stop loving them from the second they were pronounced guilty. No you couldn't and your a lie and a half if you say you can.If the prisons can't provide what's needed for basic daily life then they should let them go. Point blank, end of story. Let's not forget the fact that every prison has at least a handful if not more innocent, wrongfully convicted people.

Listen lady prison is already hard enough and alot of the time rigged. And you're talking about cramming more people ino one. You are trying to cause conflict in our society aren't you. Cramming and putting as many in as you can is not the solution. The solution is build another prison or add onto that one. I'm 13 and I could answer this you should've thought before you came to answers to just kill time and burn points.

Sounds good to me.

They ought to do a reality show called ''I'm a criminal get me outta here''.

It might slow a few of the up and coming chav gangsters.

Think it's pretty bad to be honest - never had to do it myself though.

I've been in prison but only in a 2 man cell and that is bad enough. The cells are only like the size of a bathroom and yet you can spend 22 hours locked up in there and you mightn't get on with your cellmate. You have to eat, sleep, piss in the one place so it's fairly rank. Can't imagine having another person in there as well - and what happens to the toilet if that area is now used as a sleeping area?

People go on about prison being easy and all the comforts you have but it isn't. Most people are now locked up pretty much from friday afternoon to Monday morning with only a couple of hours out of the cell each day. It gets pretty depressing when you think about the people and things you're missing out on. I would have preferred to be out working doing something useful than being banged up all that time.

I'm not saying I didn't deserve to be there but you should be treated alright no matter what when you have no choice about being there.

But isn't it a return to the prisons of old? Isn' t the inhumane treatment of prisoners the sign of an uncivilized society lowering its own standards? Doesn't it reduce the chances of successfully rehabilitating prisoners and reduce the risk of reoffending (believe it or not, it is not every released prisoner who re-offends)?
It probably is not much of a deterrent because the prison system, as is the whole criminal justice system, is crumbling.
Sorry to disagree.
