We still have it in my state. I think it is a good idea in situations where the crime is especially heinous. |

I wouldn't call it 'execution'. Nowadays they put them to sleep. Just like dogs & Cats at a shelter. Now the dogs & cats ARE executed. For a crime they didn't commit. |

It is a foolish waste of effort. If the point is that you must punish someone for being a terrible, awful, very bad person it makes more sense to give them life without the possibility of parole. It is also an incredible expense to keep someone on death row, which usually costs upwards for one year of what it would take to keep them alive and suffering for thirty. If you were an economist it makes no sense. If you are a politician it makes perfect sense because it is all for appearances sake which does not speak well for the rest of us who follow along - |

Not sure.
In my country it is no longer used, but here in the US it is.
You can't really weigh the balance of being for or against it.
I mean say a woman killed her husband because he mistreated and beat her for 40 years....compared to someone who murdered 30 people over a 40 year period?
Should they BOTH receive the death penalty??
I would think not.
For me personally, i am neither for or against it |

I think the death penalty is OK as long as you are sure you have got the right person, (How awful would that be for a family if you killed one of their members and then 10 years later discover that they did not commit the crime , would you tell them?).But with new advances in forensic science the certainty of getting the right person is very high.If they did bring it back it would act as a deterrent. However I believe the death penalty should only be used for the deliberate death of another human being. |

bring it back? i dont think it is gone.
i think we should expand its use |

I am for it in murder cases where there is NO doubt as to who the guilty party is. |

I am against it as someone has to kill on behalf of the state in a non war situation. That person has to live with that knowledge for the rest of their life.
Should a referendum be made and it bring in the penalty then those in favour should be called at random to do the killing. |

I didn't know we had gotten rid of the death penalty. I live in Texas and I am pretty sure we still have the death penalty. I kinda have mixed feelings about it. Murder is murder and sentencing someone to death is murder. However I think about some of the horrible crimes these people commit. They will never be able to live in our society. We are wasting millions and millions of tax dollars letting them sitting in jail when they will never be released. But what is worse? Dying for your crimes or living the rest of your life in jail having to think everyday why you are there. I am sure that would be more torturous for me. |

I dont think death penalty is a solution to anything.
and more importantly, the state has no right to take away something they cannot give. |

I don't think it's our place to take anothers life. A lifetime of torture would be a better fitting punishment. |

I would only have the death penalty for crimes against children because such crimes can have no excuse. Paedophiles would be put painlessly to sleep after their second offence. |

i think that now days it is very hard to get people mixed up with what theyno about dna and everything so yeah i wuld bring it back but also if it is used for murderers then surely the person that kills the murderer would then be a murderer so thjen they should thn be sentanced.
just a thought |

no, there is far to many britons being fitted up for not agreeing with what they are told to agree with, also the leaders of our country broke the treason laws which said no englishmen can be dictated to on his own english soil by any foreign power, to force this is treason which was punishable by hanging, but that was illegaly repealed by a scotish traitor called tony blair. also our society is filthy in its ways, we have adulte |

two wrongs don't make a right. who are we to judge other people and to decide who should live or die? no one has that right! killing a criminal doesn't fix the horrible act he commited. plus killing a criminal (such as a murderer) may be too nice of a punishment. they would get much more punishment from suffering in prison for life. |

i believe if u take a life then your life should be taken from you.
a good example for everyone to see, it might make them think twice before their evil deeds. and then hopefully less murders |

yes i think we should have it, if the person is guilty, guilty of a crime of taking others lives, gulity with out doubt, then yes why should they live? why should they be a cost to to the public for many many years and usually get to leave prison at some stage, no lets get the planet we live on on track, lets make all of us know what the conquenses will be if we make decisions to kill and intentionally harm others.

I wouldn't instate a death penalty unless I knew the court system's verdicts were 100% accurate.
They're not, so no. |

The death penalty didn't go anywhere, first of all. And I believe in; what you do is what you get! i.e. if you kill someone, then you should die... it you raped someone then you should get raped, etc.
Hence, what you do is what you get!
An eye for an eye! *wink* |

no i won't bring it back because some prisoner is just framed up and they sentenced that person death and discover that he doesn't have any fault it's already too late and as ahuman we don't have the rihgt too take other life only the one who create us have the right to sentenced us death. |

I think the death penalty is just too much. No mather what someone did you don't have any rights on his life so I don't agree with it. |

yes i think it should be brought back the death penalty should be used for murderers and pheodophiles |

I'm against it completely.
If you can't agree on the moral side of it, you have to at least think about the number of falsely convicted prisoners - a quashed conviction for someone that's already been executed doesn't really carry much weight does it?
It seems like a very lazy and inhumane way of dealing with inefficient and overcrowded prisons. There's no convincing argument for it that isn't based in hate rather than rehabilitation (which is what the aim of prison should actually be) |
