"I think you can't be pro-life and support the death penalty" Quote from "Fast_Ed".
The thing about being pro-life AND supporting the death penalty is that in one instance (abortion!), a person who has NEVER harmed anyone is put to death.
This can not be said about someone who has committed a crime that justifies the ultimate penalty. yet there are some who would not want this imposed.
Also: I challenge ANYONE to show how a killer who has been executed has gone out and killed again.
I remember that about 30 years ago there was a famous writer who joined a protest against executing a killer. This killer was let out on parole, and the very same month (it might have been the very same DAY, but I'm not certain!) killed another man.
There was a man in Texas (also about 30 years ago) who had been in prison for a long time for killing his wife. He was set free, and within a year had killed a small child. That child would probably be alive if the killer had been executed.
Also: how many murderers SUPPORT the death penalty? Probably NONE! They don't mind imposing it on their victims, but when it comes to THEMSELVES, oh no! |

i think a lifetime in jail for what you did is far worste then the death penalty. |

I'm completely against the death penalty, isn't it ironic how we prove its wrong to kill by killing others. |

I think the death penalty shouldn't be so costly in terms of the government spending money.
The death penalty should be less expensive than keeping a man alive with food + shelter + toiletries until he dies naturally.
That's what I think of the death penalty. And it should be practiced more often on criminals that are sentenced to life.
Edit : They should practice it in place of the "life sentence w/out parole" penalty.
Life sentences are basically murdering them out of society anyways. Why the hell keep them alive? To make them "suffer"? To spite them? It's wasting our money lol.
Kill them, and send a message to those to-be multi-child predators and serial killers. |

I wouldn't use it for plain old murder unless it gets too expensive to keep all the murderers in jail for 30 years each. But people that prey on kids or torture people and then kill them should all get the chair. |

Not necesarily kill & be killed, you dont want to have to die just because you killed some mofo defending yourself or someone you love. But yes there should be the death penalty for gross offenders like rapists, murderers, child abusers that sort of thing. |

I live in the Bay area. People are routinely killed violently each day. and I love it when gangbangers like Tookie are executed. It sends a message to these gangbangers., Commit a murder and take a dirt nap! |

i think that it isn't as much of a punishment as sitting in jail for the rest of your life. it may cost more but we are supposed to be punishing them not doing whatever is cheaper for us. |

Its amazing how much misinformation surrounds this topic, especially about the costs of the death penatly and about whether it is an efffective deterrent. If you get this far down the list of answers.....
Looking at the death penalty system in action, you realize that the only purpose it serves is retribution or revenge, it is seriously (and intrinsically) flawed in application and that there is a serious and continuing risk of executing innocent people. And, it costs much more than life in prison. Sources below.
130 people wrongfully convicted people were sentenced to death and were lucky to be exonerated and released, eventually. DNA, available in less than 10% of all homicides, can’t guarantee we won’t execute innocent people. If someone is convicted and later found innocent you can release him from prison, but not from the grave.
The death penalty doesn't prevent others from committing murder. No reliable study shows the death penalty deters others. Homicide rates are higher in states and regions that have it than in those that don’t.
Life without parole, on the books in 48 states, also prevents reoffending. It means what it says, and spending 23 of 24 hours a day locked in a tiny cell is not a picnic. Life without parole costs less than the death penalty.
The death penalty is much more expensive than life in prison, mostly because of the upfront costs of the legal process which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people. (upfront = pre trial and trial level)
The death penalty isn't reserved for the worst crimes, but for defendants with the worst lawyers. It doesn't apply to people with money. When is the last time a wealthy person was on death row, let alone executed?
Families of murder victims are not unanimous about the death penalty. However, even families who have supported the death penalty in principal have testified that the drawn-out death penalty process is painful for them and that life without parole is an appropriate alternative.
Problems with speeding up the process. Over 50 of the innocent people released from death row had already served over a decade. Speed up the process and we will execute innocent people.

the punishment fits the crime...
so what punishment fits someone that takes a gun and ends someone elses life for no reason other then their own anger??
how do you show the families of the victims that JUSTICE has been served... how do you provide them with closure...
is it just to have the person that killed their loved one live on?? to have that person become eligible for parole.. and possibly even get weekends out of jail??
i guess for me the entire death sentence question comes down to a very basic question.. what is the purpose of the justice system? If you believe it is to rehabilitate criminals so that they can become meaningful members of society.. then you will never believe in a death penalty; if otoh you believe the purpose of the criminal justice system is to punish the guilty... there can be only one punishment that fits some crimes. |

i agree with "if you kill be killed" also.

I think...for the person who rapes and murders...Take there life away!
But on the other hand..
I'd totally be for life in prison so that he's either torchered or killed by the other inmates..

I'm totally for it. I couldn't agree with eye for an eye more. F*ck morals and forgiveness. People say forgive but do you think they would feel the same way if someone killed their kid? No. They would want to kill them back. |

But if they have no proof, i don't agree. I say solid proof and not just word. I only agree if they killed someone, not if they did anything else |

I don't think it is a good solution.
For example, what happens if an innocent person, wrongly convicted, is executed? Who pays for that death? And how? |

i think it was a good idea, killers honestly dont deserve to live, would stop alot of people doing it though, people get away with murder these days ( excuse the pun ) |
