24. It is illegal for any commoner's pet to have carnal knowledge of an animal belonging to the monarch.
25. A hackney carriage (i.e. taxi) driver must (still) carry a bale of hay and a bucket to feed and water his horse
26. Royal Navy ships that enter the Port of London must provide a barrel of rum to the Constable of the Tower of London.
27. London, England, wife beating is legal just as long as it is not after 9pm and it doesn't disturb the neighbours

most are just local bylaws that have never been changed
Bylaws are laws which are made by a local authority and only apply within a specific geographical area, with particular matters of concern to local people. |

I happen to know most of these are true and some still on the books. I have most of the above framed and hanging in my office, personally i think their great definetly a point of conversation as no one believes they are true, it also provides an insight of the laws back in those days |

Sounds right we have some laws older than the people in the house of lords, and our politicians want England to be taken serious by the rest of the world, you missed one it's illegal to wear a top hat on boxing day |

Your missing the law of Henry 8th that requires all able bodied English men, and male children over the age of seven, to carry a longbow and arrows and to practice every Sunday and at other convenient times at the archery butts which will be provided in each town and village.
It is still in the statute books and has never been repealed. Could you imagine the reaction from the Police and H&S if you walked down the street with your bow and arrows - Talk about the armed response turning up, they'd have kittens.
And cricket is still against the law. |
