If the employer said it while simultaneously giving you a wink and a gunshot then you definately got the job... jk. I figured humour would be a good way to break it to you. You definately did not get the job. They placed you application in the circular file (slang term for garbage can). |

This means that the paper you filled out or your resume will go into a filing cabinet. If, at the time you applied for the job they were not hiring, it may be looked at at a later date when they are hiring.
If the job was advertised, it is a nice way of saying that they are not interested in you for some reason (possibly lack of experience or poor work history).
Don't be discouraged. I once had a company call me back a year later, and not being happy in my job at the time, I took the job offered to me. |

It means they won't be hiring you or they don't have an open position right now. Sometimes companies keep applications on file anywhere from 3-6-9-12 months. If the person they hire doesn't work out or a position opens up, they might contact you for another interview or offer a position if you were one of the top few they were debating between for the job. |

It means exactly that. They will keep your application on file (usually a certain amount of time is mentioned) and they will call you if they're interested. It may be that they're not hiring at this time.
To sound a bit more hopeful for you, I will say that although you may not get an interview right now but who's to say they won't call you weeks or months from now?
It's happened to me; I got calls for interviews up to 6 months after submitting my resume. One time I got called after being interviewed and rejected; the other person didn't work out, they wanted to re-interview me and I got hired.
Just keep on trying with other places and good luck. |
