There hasnt been a change in handgun ban law yet. Im thinking of getting sawedoff shotgun or pump shotgun. I heard that u can only buy a glock illegaly here

Handguns are illegal unless you owned it and were in Chicago before 1982. Every gun you buy must be registered with the police. You may not purchase semi automatic assault weapon clones. You may not own magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. All NFA weapons are prohibited, including short barrel shotguns, short barrel rifles, and machine guns. When transporting a gun, it must be unloaded and in an enclosed case . You need a FOID card (state permit) to buy and own any gun and I believe ammo also. The first 4 rules I listed only apply to Chicago, the rest are Illinois state laws. I strongly recommend getting a couple guns for self defense, even with all the hoops to jump through. The "facts" in the post above mine are false. |

Most guns that are legal throughout the nation are legal in Chicago. There are bans on large magazine guns and some shotguns. The real problem is getting the cities permission to own a gun. If you are not well connected with city hall you will have a very hard time.
As to buying one from the criminal element, it is a very bad idea. You will not be able to use the gun because if you do you will be arrested for illegal possession.
You need to sue the city for violating you second amendment rights, in the same manner as Heller did in Washington DC. The gun laws in Chicago are unconstitutional. |

Yeah buy illegally, that way when you get caught with it in your possession you can go straight to jail. What kind of question is that, legally or you don't need it. |

Ask yourself this question: Will a gun make you more safe or less? More people die every year from accidental firearm discharge than intentional. Do you want to be responsible for accidentally killing someone you loved or an innocent bystander? Or yourself? And as for buying illegally: I'm not even going to respond to that. |
