The baby would be known as "Baby Girl" or "Baby Boy" Example: Baby Girl Boyd or Baby Boy Smith |

In the Uk, you have to register the birth within 40 days. You don't, however, have to give it a first name - this can be added up to 12 months later. if you don't alter the birth record within the 12 months, the child would remian registered without a first name. |

Hi,
In the UK it is a legal requirement to register the birth of a baby on the Register of births, marriages and deaths at your local registry office or in some cases the registrar visits the maternity hospital once a week. I think you have 14 days from the date of the birth to register it.
Hope this helps. |

The hospital would name it. That happened to my cousin Moses. His mom refused to name him, refused to take him and left the hospital without him. When my grandmother picked him up days later, they had already named him Moses. This happened in Greenville, Mississippi at Delta Memorial. |

The state would just call it "Baby Boy (Last Name)" or "Baby Girl (Last Name)" until you gave it a name. |

Lewis Carrol wrote about someone who seemed to have no name in his poem "The Hunting of The Snark":
He would answer to "Hi!" or to any loud cry,
Such as "Fry me!" or "Fritter my wig!"
To "What-you-may-call-um!" or "What-was-his-name!"
But especially "Thing-um-a-jig!"
While, for those who preferred a more forcible word,
He had different names from these:
His intimate friends called him "Candle-ends",
And his enemies "Toasted-cheese" |

I knew an Indonesian guy who went to study in Australia- and some Indonesians only have one name.
His was Simon- so on his licence it said
First Name: Simon
Surname: Onlyname.
True story- same for his uni ID- so I'm guessing it would be called Noname. |

I believe that that is why Peekaboo Street is named what she is named. Her parents didn't give her a name and allowed her to pick her own when she was five. |

For some reason, I think that in the US, you have to have chosen a name for your baby by it's first birthday. I could be wrong.
My youngest was an "I don't know" baby for awhile after his birth. The only name my husband and I agreed on, we gave to my first son. |

In the UK you are obliged to register the birth of your child within 6 weeks (it is a punishable offence to fail to do so) and you are obliged to give the child a name when doing so. This ensures that every child has a name. |

They would name them Baby John Doe for a boy and Baby Jane Doe for a girl. Better to give them a name. How would you like that for your name? |

No it is against the law not to register a birth so you would have to name the baby something. |
|

Tyanna-Daisy

No you would have to give it a name, children by law have to be registered. You have to register them as something. |

You have to register the birth within 6 weeks and they usually like you to have named it. And if you're not going to name the child, how will it know who he/she is? |

It depends what country you're in. In the UK, by law, a baby must be registered within 42 days. And to do that, it must have a name. So if you refuse to name it you would be breaking the law. |
|

?
 |
By law you have to register a babys birth.. and hence give it a name.
If you dont, that is illegal as kinda technically you are concealing a birth, etc.... |

wow, that is such a cool question, i think its possible to have a baby and not be forced into naming it, however that child will not have the right to own a birth certificate, password probably not be able to get into a school.. i think over time that baby will recognized itself / associate itself with a name of some sort.
cool question - maybe i should give it ago... |
