What is a typical day like as a court reporter?

Is anyone a court reporter? I was thinking of attending school for this and it seemed like it can be very difficult. I seen that you need to learn the stenograph machine to translate but what else is involved? Do you actually do anything in the courtroom or is it all done in an office? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Court reporters typically transcribe court proceedings, (trials, motion hearings, & the like) administrative hearings (by boards or panels) and depositions (sworn statements or answers to questions). It takes a LOT of practice & can be very stressful -- but it can be very lucrative. A few years ago everyone thought court reporters would be replaced by recordings so few people entered schools. It didn't happen & litigation has explodede. Now as older reporters are retiring there is tremendous demand.
