What is a typical day like for a court reporter?

Is anyone a court reporter? I was thinking of attending school for this and it seemed like it can be very difficult. I seen that you need to learn the stenograph machine to translate but what else is involved? Do you actually do anything in the courtroom or is it all done in an office? Do you have to be really smart to do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
