What is so horrible about gay marriage?
|
Additional Details I mean honestly people, if they get married, how will that make your life any worse?
When you go about your day, is it worse because, OH MY GOSH, there are gay couples?

To the person above me, I hate to burst your bubble, but it's a lot more than 10% of the population. 48% of the population supports equal rights, and more than 2/3 of those from 18-30. It's not just gay people who want gay marriage, its their family, friends, and every other fair minded and empathic American. |

I have to wonder what people fear. They claim it destroys the institution of marriage. I can't imagine how the gay couple across the street will destroy the marriage of my next door neighbors. (Who happen to be an interracial couple.)
But marriage is about two adult people committing to love each other for the rest of their lives.
Given the sorry state of the world, I think we should promote and celebrate love.
And it is scary that the majority is allowed to take away the rights of minorities. The whole point of the constitution is to protect rights, not take them away. I wonder how they would feel if the next amendment went after them.
And to those who want to babble on about procreation, my dad remarried after my mom died. They were in their 60s and couldn't have kids. Should they be banned from marriage?
And for those who want thump the bible. The bible is not a source for law in this country. Remember that pesky thing about separating church and state?
And for those who want to compare it to incest, bestiality, pedophilia, please get an education. The key is two ADULTS who consent. Not children. Not animals.
And for the idiot who talks about Native Americans killing women and children. Um, so does every other society. What do you think we are doing when we are at war? Or the death penalty?
And to the person who talks about the economics, people will have to be insured one way or the other. If they don't have insurance, then they get sick and the state has to step in anyway. Gay couples have fewer children but still pay taxes for schools etc. Try watching the video about the economic benefits of gay marriage. (It's funny.) |

Nothing that I can see. I'll be interested to see some of the answers, because I wonder what kind of actual harm people think this would cause.
Biblical and personal disapproval don't count. |

I believe that many opponents of gay marriage have no problem with an equivolent set of civil rights given to gay couples to create equity in state and federal law. So my question is, if such civil equity existed, and it was titled United, instead of Marriage, would you be satisfied??? I think not. I think you want these opponents to be forced to recognize your and your partner as they would other married man/woman couples. And you cannot make that happen. |

Nothing. Adultery, divorce, spousal abuse are infinitely bigger threats to conventional marriage. |

It's not entirely a social issue, if it were, it would be decriminalized. Allowing gays to marry would drain all of the social programs. Social Security, Medicare would both have to give partner benefits which they don't have to now (read: billions of dollars from who?). Insurance companies would have to pay out premiums to gay spouses, companies would have to pay health insurance for gay "families". It would cost billions, possibly trillions of dollars to taxpayers. |

Absolutely nothing.
Edit:It's for the kids, huh? Well, what about the kids of gay couples who think their parents are different because their parents don't have the same rights as other people's parents? What about the kids of gay couples who's other parent isn't part of their family because they can't marry? What about the kids who have gay parents who have to pay more for things like insurance and things, which means they get less money for the family? What about the kids who are starting to discover they are gay and know they might not be able to marry who they want? I guess we don't matter to you people. =( |

MARRIAGE is between ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN.
If the homos want civil unions, fine. NO to gay "marriage".
Why is it fair that TEN percent of the population gets to force its view on the other NINETY percent? How is THAT right?
To the guy below me: Sorry, junior, TEN percent of the population is gay. The PEOPLE spoke in California. If you don't like it, move to a place where abomination is accepted. |
