It will be a big deal the first time the health inspector catches up with him in the showers and sees how the pretty boy shaves his legs. |

It is also currently illegal and it presents appearance problems for his sponsors. I understand most of his sponsors are keeping him except for Kellogs. |

its illegal and any person on tv that kids watch shouldnt have pics of them doing it and breaking the law. People think if he can do it they can too. If you represent your country you should obey there laws. |

Very simple. He over-estimated his importance to the world and must get a life. Now wasn't that fun? |

Simply put pot is illegal and he was shown doing an illegal act. Also you obviously forgot that heorin comes from the poppy plant and cocaine from the cocoa plant which means they also come from the earth. |

I don't know. I think kicking him off the swim team after he won their butts 8 medals is a slap in the face. Heck, I'd refuse to go swim for them if they begged me back. As far as Kellogg's? Pfft. That guy's laughing all the way to the bank. He's set for life already anyhow. |

Because a lot of people look up to him... It's like superman smoking pot |

the media is fvcking retarded, you haven't figured it out yet? |

It's illegal and he's a role model. He will be used as an example. |

No big deal to me. Usage has been widespread for decades. The current crop of retirees grew up smoking it. Our last three presidents smoked it. I think a large and growing number of people realize the "war" against it is is a waste of time and money, addresses a problem that isn't one, creates problems that wouldn't exist otherwiise.
I hope Washington and the press, both of which are heavily populated with people who smoke it, figure this out soon. |

Uhm...illegal substance? I'm surprised the Olympics haven't tried to take away his medals yet... Seems like something they would do. |

So do a lot of other drugs.
That said.
When I smoked that stuff, there was nothing better than a bowl of Kellogg's Frosted Flags. To Cure the Munchies.
So what have they got to lose? |

This great America we live in is not a free society anymore. It is not illegal to smoke but illegal to own. I know the only reason it is not legal is because our money grubbing Gov't cannot regulate it. I guarantee if they can get millions and millions of dollars by selling it then cigarettes would not even be a current issue. I wish the best for Michael, toke it up. I am banning Kelloggs just for you Mike (The best Olympic athlete of all time!) |

nothing, the only bad thing is that he was considered "Model" to kids, but I have noproblem with him smoking weed. 80% of americans are okay with marijuana. I personally am intrigued by his Lung power!
Iron Lungs + ROOR Bong= Michael phelps
8 gold medals!! |

It is illegal, and I'm sure he was given warning that any drug use could ban him from the Olympics or any competition. It was stupid of him. He had it made. |

It's illegal. |

Regardless what the truth about pot is people see it as a bad thing. Phelps doing a bad thing = Phelps bad.
I personally don't believe there is anything wrong with the occasional recreational use of pot. But it is illegal. And you have to see it from different points of view. I would not want my child to smoke pot. So I can understand where they come from. Phelps is a role model to someone.
Not me, He is a mouth breather |

I think it's funny that people are so pissed about Phelps smoking pot, yet we have had a few Presidents now who have admitted to cocaine use and that is not legal either. hmmm |

OK we all know it is illegal. Alot of people do it anyway however. There is nothing wrong with Phelps smoking pot. It is his choice and his personal business. However, he is respresenting America with thousands of people looking up to him and when something like that gets out it looks bad on us as a country... stating that we support our athletes and doing illegal activities. |

Dude, arsenic is also natural as well as a bunch of other things that are bad for you. Natural doesn't mean healthy. |

I don't see it as a big deal.
And the people that do seem to believe that a person that accomplishes something needs to spend the rest of their lives living like a Trappist Monk to serve as examples to children, most of whom have probably never heard of the guy.
I think surreptitiously taken photo leaked to the media is LOWER THAN WHALES**T.
It's even more amusing that people would be appalled that there is POT SMOKING(gasp) going on at frat house party.....
are they that out of touch with reality? |

Because we demand perfection from people WE assign as our "role models". God forbid an Olympic swimmer smokes weed.
I actually think it's because America tries to hammer into kids the notion that if you smoke weed you'll end up working at McDonalds till your 40. Then a world record athlete gets caught with it and weed doesn't look so evil anymore. Throws their whole argument out of whack. |

it should not be a big deal. Now parents can hold up a pic (of phelps) and say "see kids, if you do drugs, you won't make anything of yourself"..... **snickers**..
Seriously, he got caught, he not only did an illegal drug, but was dumb enough to let a pic be taken, shame on him. He is NOT setting a good example for our teens.....getting caught!!!!! Smart partiers do NOT get caught. I speak from experience.
Him getting suspended is lame tho, adding rules to punish people is not very professional. |

i agree. its no biggie, weed is cool...BUT crack also comes from a plant and its bad. lol so theres no argument in that area. BUT i agree ...weed is harmless. i think that thats something he should do in the privacy of his own home alone and out of the public eye because he is the worlds fastest swimmer and alot of people who dont ruin theyr lungs to be as fast as him look up to him and that doesnt set a good example. |
|

Crumpled Fang
|
Honestly, I really have no idea what the big deal was.....maybe he actually did do it. But that was probably a long time ago....he's probably a lot healthier now. Swimmers need to have good lungs, and I think that the smoking issue is probably long gone from his lungs.
Note: I AM NOT saying that smoking pot or taking any kind of drug, smoking any kind of thing, is a good thing. It is a terrible thing to do, and if you try it, you just might become one its many drug/cigarette addicts. |
