PACE is a statute which regulates police powers, the admissibility of evidence in court, and similar matters. Connected to PACE are the PACE codes of conduct (these are not part of PACE itself - they are not primary legislation). They set out codes of conduct for searches, detention of suspects, interviews, dealing with terrorist suspects etc.
PACE was brought in to address concerns about the conduct of the police in investigations, following a number of cases involving coerced confessions. It brought it major reform of how the admissibility of evidence is determined in court. |

It provides rules and regulations on how the police should carry out particular procedures, for example, searching powers, what a police officer needs to tell you before they search you i.e name, station etc. It also deals with things such as, audio recording interview procedures, and the treatment of of a suspect whilst at a police station (this section of the act is 80 pages long!) |
