What is your opinion about the death penalty?

I'm against it.

- Mistakes happen. In the last 35 years in the U.S., 130 people have been released from death row because they were exonerated by DNA evidence (DNA is not available in most homicide cases).

- It costs taxpayers MUCH more to execute someone than to imprison them for life.

- It is not a deterrent - violent crime rates are HIGHER in death penalty jurisdictions.

- It is inconsistently and arbitrarily applied.

- Jesus was against it (see Matthew 5:7 & 5:38-39, James 4:12, Romans 12:17-21, and John 8:7).

- Life without parole (LWOP) is on the books in most states now, and it means what it says. People who get this sentence are taken off the streets. For good.

This probably sounds REALLY sick but.....
I think the death penalty for people should be this:
You die the way you killed the vitcim
For example, you stabbed someone 13 times in the chest
Someone else does that to you
:)
You all probably think I'm really sick
But I honestly think people deserve it....

many people see as wrong

but picture this
some guy rapes and kills a couple of girls
you think that's wrong and many he gets life in jail or something

what if one of those girls was your daughter
that's were it gets difficult

that's y some states have them and some don't

i think death is just an easy way out. and honestly if someone killed someone very brutally than they just deserve to be tortured or killed the same way..its not up tp anyone to decide when to take someones life..but killers are sick

As long as there is even the slightest chance the person could be Innocent the death penalty is wrong. and no one can be 100% sure of anyones guilt.

every state is different they either have it or dont. but in some states they have a choice of being electricuted, hung, or shot but i think most people pick to have a poisioness injection. my opinion the death penalty is an easy way out. instead of them living each day with thinking about what they did they get out of it. i think they should all rot in jail, or go in the isolation room lol

I'm going to assume you live in the United States. I don't know about the death penalty in other countries.
In the United States, each state determines whether to allow the death penalty or not. The only exception to this law is if a person commits a federal crime. If that crime is serious enough, the United States government can sentence a person to death even if they committed the crime(s) in a state that doesn't allow the death penalty.
Arguments for an against the death penalty are often open to argument, so in the end you really have to just make a decision based on what you feel is right.
I've heard people cite sources saying it is far more expensive to place a man on death row and have him executed than it is to put them in jail for life. That's reason enough, in my mind, to use the death penalty as sparingly as possible.
I used to be adamantly against the death penalty in all cases, but I've started to reconsider. Specifically, I've started to work on a project at my school researching a serial killer. Having read what he (Albert Fish, if you wanna look him up) and others have done, I feel no remorse when I think of them being electrocuted.

I dont feel that we have the right to decide who lives or dies but at the same time i understand how the families feel when someone murders or rapes their family member.

Nowadays they do euthanasia, which is injected into the vein. Personally, I'm all for it when it comes to certain cases. Say a man brutally murdered twenty people. He deserves to die. Staying in prison for life isn't a bad enough punishment.

Certain states do use it today, like Texas. My opinion on the death penalty is neither for or against it. If I had to choose, I would be for it, though. Although death is a harsh punishment, someone who has murdered a person(s), or has assisted in a murder of a person(s), should DEFINITELY be put to death. Not only should they be put to death, but they should be forced to reside in a prison for at least two years before they are put to death, so they can suffer and realize the pain they have placed upon a person and their family and friends. Although I do agree with it, I don't agree with putting them through a painful death (electric chair... outdated by now, though). Lethal injection is the way I think they should handle every person they are putting to death. There are things that I do disagree with about it, but for the most part, I agree with it.
