i think that 18 is too young because most 18 year olds are still immature and will make dumb decisions if they become drunk. It should stay at 21. |

My opinion is that the Federal approach to the drinking age is criminal. Where they cannot Constitutionally regulate, they instead hold back much-needed funding from States that so not comply with their notions of what constitutes an appropriate age. The fact that they are considering changing that age is evidence that they are not infallible in their decision-making.
Issues like these are properly left to the States. And personally, I think that alcohol should either have no age regulations, or should be regulated to whatever the State defines as "adult" (18 in most), or banned outright. Setting other arbitrary ages is insulting to those who are told they are adults, but not really.
I don't drink (at all), but I do recognize that drinking is an important part of American culture. |

In my opinion, I think it would be a huge mistake to lower the legal drinking age to 18.
If this happens there's going to be a $hitload of Dumb-A$$ teenagers driving around drunk off their A$$e$, getting into accidents. |

alcohol impairs your judgment. it makes you do things that you wouldn't normally do. 18 is young. i wouldn't lower it. it can lead to other things. |

Lower? If i was in charge i would raise it a few years. |

Absolutely not. When I go out to the bar or whatever, I don't want to have to deal with a bunch of drunken young punks. |

What's the point? Thier already drinking already |

I think it's a terrible idea. The reason for 21 is because our brains aren't done developing until then. |

terrible idea 18 yr old are not mature enough and are very irreresponsible at least a good part of them are My own 18 yr old isnt responsible enough. thats all we need on the roads a drunk teenager with a cell phone. Not that that hasnt already been the case time and time again i am sure but to make it even that much more easier for them i dont think so i worry about my own children as do many other parents out there do |

I like your question, it makes me think! Ha ha ha!!!!
I believe that drinking should be not allowed until 28 years because I believe that most people 21+ are not responsible on the amount of alcohol drunken so moving the age to 18 is far by worse but I could still agree with 21 or older.
Thanks for the questions again! |

No.

As someone turning 15 in a couple of months i have to honestly say i've tryed alcohol, and, liked some of it. But i think this is a horrible idea, i have to be honest, although i would like it, for American society and death rates, it would be terrible...i mean SURE, 'kids/teens' already drink, but doing this would increase the number that do, and probably increase crime rates and alcohol related deaths/crashes by a whole hell of alot. |

18 is already the drinking age over here, and I'm happy with it. |

Raising it to 25 would be a lot smarter.
Lowering it to 18 guarantees a lot more crying mothers over the dead bodies of their children |

I don't see the point of lowering the drinking age. But I also agree that people will find a way to drink either way. |

Yes it absolutely should be.
The drinking age in countries such as Canada as well as many others is eighteen. They are no worse off along the lines of drunken accidents etc. In fact the united states has the highest drinking age limit in the world. To say that it would put more irresponsible drunken kids in cars and in the streets is wrong because teenagers will drink if they want to and alcohol is not hard to come by.
If you look at it from a teenagers point of view drinking before 21 is a crime. Every time they drink they are getting away with breaking the law. Teenagers get a rush and enjoyment from getting away with this. So when the do it they are more likely to abuse it. They will not be supervised by someone older and more responsible. Nobody will able to drive who is sober because everyone wants to drink. They all will drink. Leading to more accidents and deaths. After the age of 18 you are legally an adult and require no supervision by a responsible adult and if alcohol is obtained who will stop you? As a soldier who could die for our country to be restricted of alcohol isn't right. They are not immature enough to die for our country but they are immature enough to not be able to drink a beer? |

If the government can trust a 18 yr old an automatic weapon and send him to war, why can't he drink some beers. If you assume that he or she have the enough judgment and mental toughens to go to war you should also assume the have the judgment to know when to stop drinking. |

Honestly, I don't think it matters, kids are still going to drink, now a-days 13 is the cool age to start drinking. It's insane. |

I think that all the 18 year old's should wait. I am tired of hearing about how "if I'm old enough to sign my life away to the government, i should be old enough to drink." here is your answer: NO. the military is a job. Just like you sign up for college, you sign up for the military. Your signing up for an obligation. Do you realize how immature you are at 18? Why don't you think your insurance is high. I'm only 23. I understand what its like. how about you find some water or kool-aid. Leave drinking to the 18 year old's in canada and mexico and stop complaining. Be happy your in the US. Drink illegally, its more fun. |

now that im over 21 i wouldn't want the drinking age lowered |

I think it should be raised to 21. Kids are getting more and more irresponsible. I don't think it's a good idea at all. |

I say we allow anyone to drink at any age. |
|

ConfuciusSay.......
|
there shouldn't even be a drinking age.......
people who are 'under aged' drink with friends because friends are able to get the alcohol......and that when you drink the most...since your having so much fun........
but if there wasn't a drinking age.....then a teen who wants to try alcohol can just get some themselves (no sharing because of $).......then drink alone......and when you drink alone....no peer pressure..........then they will learn to moderately drink.....instead of seeing who can take more.....
with the drinking age its become such a big deal to turn 21 or 18.....should put less focus on that period of time......... |

Really, I dont think it will change much. Kids will drink, even if its illegal. |

If an 18 year old is considered mature enough to die for his county in the armed services, then they should be considered old enough to drink responsibly. Besides, aren't there states on the east coast where the drinking age has always been 18? Can we draw any conclusions from that? |
|

GRANNY12GR1

We live in very rural area and underage drinking is the norm here. Many kids are supplied by their parents. Reducing the age isn't going to change anything except the amount of fines collected by the county for Minors In Possession. It certainly won't reduce the number of alcohol related vehicular injuries and deaths, alchohol poisoining deaths, drunken crime sprees, drunken domestic violence, child abuse and whatever else someone can think of. I believe that alcohol is the absolute worse drug there is and is the REAL GATEWAY DRUG. |

What like 18 years olds aren't drinking now. It works in Canada as far as I know, Kids are idiots either way. |

I live in Canada and the legal drinking age is 19. It is only 18 in Quebec. This encourages 18 year old's who live near Quebec, like Ontario for example, to drive there and drink. Then they drive back under the influence. This is unfortunate and it shows that 18 year old's cannot handle the responsibility of drinking. |
