What is your opinion on the new smoking laws?

also are you a smoker or non-smoker.

I am a smoker. I enjoy having a *** when I'm out with mates and having to sit in a smoke free pub just doesn't feel the same. I don't believe in smoking in eating establishments as that has always bugged me. You can bet that you get your food and someone lights up which is off putting for the remainder of my meal. At the end of the day if a non - smoker asked me not to smoke next to them when I was out I'd move away so they didnt have to breath in my smoke but if they didin't like it then why go to smokey places? I'm harming no one but myself through smoking and I'll give up in my own good time. If I cant smoke anywhere when I go out then I'll be saving the pennies because I wont be going anywhere.

Even though I am a smoker I am not a smelly t**t my clothes dont smell and if people think its that bad then tough s**t.

they are bad for people and business owners. no matter a smoker or not,if you agree with the ban, something you like will be next. as for asthma, perfumes and colognes will bother it,will we ban cologne next.

I would say my own personal life style is being invaded and if I wish to smoke or not is entirely my choice. Anyone who prefers not to be around cigarette smokers should move off. Think how many years tobacco has been around and only now has it suddenly become a so-called killer. Laws seem to be being made just for the fun of it and usually end up annoying half the population. I am an ex-smoker so can see both sides of the question.

well, I am not an addict, but I enjoy a good cigarette when ot w/ friends, or when stressed out, so while the laws are good for those who have health problems, it doesnt seem fair to those who do smoke, considering the fact that our own gov't had huge hand in really producing smokers in the first place. So I guess Im more against it than for it.

i am a smoker but i think people should be given the chance to decide if they want to drink in a pub where people smoke or one that is smoke free i drink in both as my friends don't smoke and this seems to be the best way for many having the choice taken away from people will result in many small local pubs having to close our local landlord is already making plans to convert the beer garden into a smoking area with a marque and heaters for the colder months after the ban comes in force but who wants to go outside in wet cold weather for a *** ?? rather stay at home (rest my case) !!!!

i like the new laws....1. i am asthmatic and used to have asthma attacks when i went to restaurants with friends 2. i don't smell like smoke for the rest of the night 3. my food doesn't taste or smell like smoke!
***non-smoker***

smiley
im a non smoker and it does my head in my sister and friend both smoke and when we go to the pub im left sitting on my own when they have to go for a smoke it used to be alot better when they could smoke were they were sitting although im delighted you cant smoke in a restauant i used to hate when id be eating my meal and someone would be smoking around me so its a no win sitution

i'm a non-smoker, i think that the new laws are great, i'll be able to go to the pub and come out smelling fresh instead of coming out and stinking of smoke!

plus people will be more inclined to give up and may not even start in the first place.

I am a smoker who thinks that the laws are good. Smoking is deadly and I started too young to understand. It usually does start with kids; that is why I don't mind the regulations. It helps me cut back, and I hope smoking gets eradicated completely. If people started as adults only I would feel differently, but young brains build stronger neuro-pathways that make it harder to stop, or just do on occasion.

I was a smoker years ago, and it got to the point where I could not stand the smell of it so I quit- I feel everyone has a right to decide for themselves if they want to smoke- but agree that not everyone should have to smell it- I find the smell rather strong and it burns my eyes as well- young people and old would suffer from the effects of second hand smoke in buildings that allow people to smoke in them- your clothes stink(I can pick a smoker out of a crowd easily by the smell- no matter what they are smoking). again, I feel everyone who smokes should have the right do so, but not in a place that non-smokers have to work or live- think of a smell that offends you- would you want to work in that atmosphere? no- I think not---

I'm a non-smoker, and I think they are very unfair.
there are other problems much worse than smoking tobacco, that needs more attention.
I don't think second hand smoke is not that dangerous as inhaling the gasoline fumes has we pump gas or the smoke when we BBQ. till they prove those to me then I won't complain about the tobacco users.

I first want to say I am a non-smoker. I then want to say, I think it is wrong. Let the owners choose weather they will allow smoking or not. Next they will be saying no-smoking in our homes. You let the government regulate one thing, the next thing they will be in your house tell you what to do.

They need to BAN SMOKING in ALL public places. You go to a restaurant to eat and you see people with a fork in one hand and a cigarette in the other.Take a bite then take a puff.I smoked for over 12 years and I an a non-smoker for 4 years know.I didn't care when I was smoking about the non-smokers.I thought If you don't want to smell it then don't come in.That's exactly what I do now.If it is NOT a non-smoking restaurant. My husband and I wont go in..I never realized How BAD it really smells.

I smoke the laws smack of big brother.I do not go into pubs so it will not affect me.When they finish bashing smokers.overweight people, drivers & drinkers they will have to find some one else &
yes it may be the people who want the ban.

BRILLIANT!!! Why would any sane person want to smoke anyway it is absolutely gross. Apart from killing themselves and impairing others health and making everything smell bad it must cost them an absolute fortune that could be better spent on something really good such as holidays, food or even charity so you'd feel better about yourself anyway. What sad lives they must be leading to need the prop of nicotine to get them through the day. GIVE IT UP YOU KNOW IT MAKE SENSE!!

New smoking laws where?

In MN, they are talking about a statewide smoking ban, similar to what they have in many other states. I'm an ex-smoker, but even when I was smoking, I was all for the bans. I CHOSE to smoke. Nobody forced me to start, and nobody was forcing me to continue.

Being Scottish with a LOT of Irish family, I saw the new law in Ireland frequently before it came in over here.
Publicans set aside areas outside for smokers as they were recognised as paying customers too.
When it came in in Scotland, I relished it. As a non smoker, I hated going to a nightclub or pub and coming home stinking of this vile thing people consider a relaxant....Yeuk!
Now you can go to a bar and see the person sitting in front of you without waving through a cloud of smoke.

And for the smokers who say...if you don't like the smell of smoke...don't go to smoky places!!!! How ridiculous is that... The place isn't smoky..its the smokers who make it smoky with their vile habit that the force onto everyone else..Why should non smokers sit at home because smokers want a cigarette? Get real!

A survey was carried out on people who work in the licence trade i.e. barmaids/men, waiters.... It commenced 6 months prior to the introduction of the new law and concluded 6 months after.
It measured the health and lung capacity of these workers and results proved that passive smoke had serious consequences to their health and that vast improvements were noted when smoking in public places was banned.

The results speak for themselves.

I smoke but never where people are eating. When i first heard they were bringing out this law in ireland and scotland i was very anti but now i actually don't think it'll be a bad thing. I'm english by the way.

I think it's disgusting the the federal government that is the labour one is spending 168 million on an anti-smoking campaign immediately after the very unpopular flood tax to gain politicat brownie point. That tax payers money and shouldn't be used to get in at the next election!
