What should I do for my irresponsible roommate...?

My roommate, who's also the owner of this house clogged the sink for about a week ago
and she's not really doing anything to fix it.
Problem is that she doesn't even do dishes that often and now her dishes are all over the places including the stove and I can't really cook now.
I have a contract stating that I have an access to the kitchen and I was just wondering if it is actually legal to say that I will not pay the rent unless she is going to fix the sink (by the way, I live in Ontario, Canada)

Since you are sharing the kitchen and bathroom with the owner, your tenancy is not covered by the Residential Tenancies Act. So yes, you can withhold your rent if you want to provoke the situation. What is most likely to happen is your roommate will tell you to move out. If this is not part of your plans, you should start shopping for a new place to live as soon as you decide to take a stand. |

It's not really, but if you went to the landlord tenant tribunal you'd win. but you still have to live with her. My suggestion is that you have a talk with her, tell her that either she can fix it or you'll have it fixed and take that amount off your rent -- it's her choice. |
