If it's a stranger, do not respond to them at all and keep walking.
If they persist, turn, look them in the eye and CALMLY say, "I don't have time for this. Leave me alone". And walk off. Do not yell or swear, because that's what they're trying to get you to do. They want a reaction.
If you can't get rid of them even then, go into a shop and see if they follow you (they probably won't, especially if you strike up a conversation with the shop assistant). If there aren't any shops around, get out your mobile and *pretend* to phone 999. Calmly say into the phone, whilst you're still walking (even though you're pretending), hello, police please. [pause]. Yes, I'm being harassed. They'll run off pretty quickly. |
