With the recent events of Bernard Madoff and every thing going down the tube; what should the government do? Impose stricter laws or regulations? Increase audits? Basically, how can WE as a nation prevent this from ever happening again?
Please include your thoughts and opinions. DO NOT SAY BURN OR KILL MADOFF BECAUSE IT SIMPLY WILL NOT HAPPEN. We are looking towards the future and we know so many people are behind Madoff.

Madoff is getting 150 years. Would you want more?
In California, you would get three years for the first person you defraud, and 8 months tacked on for each one there after. Want to double it, fine with me. The problem it is never going to be a capital crime. Just prison. By the time it reaches Ponzi level it is a life sentence. Remember, Ponzi was a man. There will always be people who think that they can get great returns, and there will be someone ready to take their money. |

The only way to prevent this from occurring again and again is for those who invest to watch their portfolios better. This scheme happened because of the word of mouth of others and their own personal high returns on their own investments encouraged others to invest.
the government may enforce new regulations but their is an investor out their that will think of another scheme of some sort unless people watch their portfolios better. |
