Sure but aren't ALL parents (by virtue of wanting a child in the first place) more or less mentally unstable? |

I heard the doctor was under review and investigation. I hope they take his license away. This is a medical disaster. |

The answer to that question is, " they weren't!" |

They are going after the doctor, now the truth comes out that this woman is knee deep in student loans, unemployed and recieving government assistance already. Estimated cost of the taxpayers to raise her 8 kids is anywhere from 1.3 million to 2.7 million and considering California is holding back tax payer refunds because of massive budget shortfalls, I am not surprised that people are FURIOUS over this whole situation. |

I just read about that and was completely blown away. A single mother on welfare who already has six kids gets a bunch of eggs implanted so she can have more kids? OMG! I read that she most likely is getting paid around $3,000 a month for the six kids so she must of wanted more kids to up the income. Personally, I think she should be brought up on charges. I don't know what for exactly but if the government has to give a family welfare there should be a law that says you are not allowed to have more children if you can not support them on your own. This kind of milking the system has to stop!!! |

Did you hear the latest?? After claiming she got no help from taxpayers, it came out that she receives food stamps and disability checks for her children.
Also, they think taxpayers are going to end up paying for the ridiculous hospital stay bill!
I think that doctor wasn't thinking at all!! I hope they investigate, and take his license away! |

The doctors obviously weren't thinking! I feel sorry for those poor babies. I don't really know if it can or will be brought to an ethics board but I certianly think it should be! |

While any lawyer can argue that it isn't the doctors responsibility to ensure the one receiving the embryos isn't a nut case, implanting that many of them (on a woman who was getting disability due to back problems caused by her last litter) isn't best practice.
I do imagine they will be able to pull his license based on the fact that is was malpractice. |

i'm sure the doctor had reasoning.. no matter how messed up there must have been a reson.. an experiment or something... the children should not be mad to suffer they are apt to suffer from neglect or abuse with so many other siblings only a few years older than them. |

They were looking to increase their success percentages. Greed.
Fertility Clinic should support these children |

They were probably thinking, "Nadya Suleman is a cash cow. The more babies, the better!":) |

Federal records show that the Beverly Hills doctor whose fertility treatment led to the birth of Nadya Suleman's octuplets -- and her six previous children -- has one of the worst success rates of any fertility clinic in the country, the LA Times reported. In fact, Suleman's children represent a sizable portion of the pregnancy rate at his clinic over the last several years, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In other words, "Octomom's'" doctor was so desperate for more success that he took advantage of his star patient's mental state and lost track of right and wrong. |

Sadly it seems that the words "medical" and "ethics" are antithetical to each other. |

Unfortunately this is a catch-22 situation. While I find what this woman and her doctors did reprehensible. The alternative is eugenics and social engineering which I also do not agree with. Sadly the doctors did not do anything illegal. The question of whether their conduct was ethical will be decided by a board of their peers. Really my anger in this matter is directly at Suleman. This woman has not acted responsibly, but she is now also a proved unconscionable prevaricator. She sat before a national tv audience and claimed she had received no public funds to support her children. Now the truth of the matter is out. I just cannot stomach liars. The real question is what is to stop her from doing it again? |

I don't know, did she have it done in this country or outside of the country? If she had it done outside the country, the doctors aren't held to the same standards as in the US |

They were clearly thinking that public money had been found and would continue to be found to fund this woman's monomania. They did it for money. |

Well she had the kids. I think that's too many, but hell there is no law stopping her from having these kids. Criticizing her and her doctors aren't going to stop her from getting welfare. |

I find it amazing that when the subject is abortion, everybody is screaming about choice, yet in this case everybody is laying the blame on the doctor. Hello?... the woman made a choice, she is a client, and if you've ever run a business you know that the client is always right. I think the responsibility for this belongs to that insane woman period. If this doctor wouldn't have accomodated her, she would have found one that would.
I feel for those kids who will have to grow up without a father because of that selfish cow. |
